I was debating trading in my truck for a Honda Pilot to cut my payments in half, but they only offered me $13K which I think is ridiculous considering NADA says a clean trade-in is $15,800 for my truck with options/miles on it. I know they have to make some money but this offer kinda offended me a bit. Maybe it's just because I love my truck but what do you guys think? 2006 TRD SPORT SR5 PreRunner DB CAB 97,000 miles. I think I will hold onto it for awhile because it runs great & I have never had it in the shop for a major repair. I would think that I'd get a bit more love on trade-in but not so much around these parts!

If you want to cut down on the payments why not transfer the loan to another lender?

You're transferring to another brand, if they're not a Toyota dealership, they might not be as inclined to give you as much for it. If you were trading for a Rav4 or Highlander, I'll bet that number would go up a bit. I still wouldn't go for an offer that low, just trying to give you some of the reasoning behind their offer.

I have 5.9% financing, & with my credit I don't think I could do much better, I will have it paid off in a few years but $400/month is putting a hurtin on me right now but I might just stick with it because it seems nobody wants to give me what it's really WORTH! I know she will provide me with many more years of great service, I just figured I could make a pretty penny out of her but that's not the case around this area. I went to two different places & got offered $13,300 & $13,000 even. I was like SERIOUSLY??? I know you can make an easy $17+ out of this truck with very LITTLE money to put it on the lot for sale. Oh well

    Don't want another Tacoma?

That offer is very surprising. I just got 22k back for my base model 2007. Since you have a much better package, I'd expect you'd be close to that. Your mileage is a tad high though; I suspect that is the reasoning behind the offer.

The Toyota dealers in this area think they have a captive audience. Try going to the dealership on RT 1 or in the Philly Suburbs.

However, as stated, if you want to switch models then you pretty much have to go with the flow.

    Nope. 22k

I guess technically it wasn't a base. Sr5 Prerunner, so like the mid-level model?

I think I will just make it work & deal with the payments because I do LOVE my truck, my plan was to get into something cheaper monthly & get a new Taco later on. The Pilot's are nice SUV's & surprisingly roomy & the one I found was a 2004 with only 50k miles & loaded. It was very well taken care of but according to NADA which is what my bank uses when it comes to financing the retail value is the same as what they want to sell it for, which won't work since my credit union requires the vehicle to be worth about 20-25% more than the loan is for. I'll probably just stay in the taco I have for now, which is ok with me.

What you are not stating is what the price compared to book is on the Pilot.

I just traded a 2011 Corolla S on a 2008 Tacoma AC TRD OR 4x4 V6 / 33k miles. Only got $11,000 plus tax on the trade but the Tacoma was being sold close to $5,000 under book. So......what is the no trade price on the Pilot. This is the only way you will know what they are really offering you.

Keep the truck or you'll be SORRY; unless you don't like money. $400 is cheap compared to the nightmare that awaits. images_758b80f2e83492e49db5cc2e66355fe9019f8c78.jpg

Maybe its just my area but prerunners don't sell very well or hold value nearly as well as the 4x4 tacos .

On another note , with used cars your always better off selling privately .

The price on the Pilot is $12,480 which according to NADA is the retail price. They had $16,000 as retail on the window tag but that is on KBB. How there is a such a large price difference between KBB & NADA baffles me. They stated that the vehicle is listed at it's lowest price & will not budge on it. Unfortunatly my bank goes by NADA retail for it's loans, so unless I fork money down they won't approve the loan because the final sale price including tax, title etc is so close to retail price. I drove the Pilot & looked it over thoroughly & it really is a nice SUV but I think keeping my truck is meant to be, lol and I'm ok with that.

So you want to spend $13K for a 9 yr old vehicle? And if you're not going to get approved for the loan from your bank, does that mean you're also upside down on your Tacoma?

It's a 9 yr old vehicle but it only has 50k miles on it, & looks much newer. I'm not upside down at all whatsoever, but they were only going to give me slightly more than what I owe on it. I'm just going to keep my truck regardless now so it don't matter.
