hello, new member here, this topic may have been beaten to death but I really would like to know the proper way to check the trans fluid. I have the Haynes manual and it seems pretty easy except for the fact that the manual contradicts itself on the proper temp to check it. It first states fluid temp needs to be 160-175, then says v6 models need to be 97-115 degrees to be accurately checked. let it idle until engine warmed up? how do i know its between 97-115? Srry im a tad ocd so i really want it to be correct. If anyone has done it with no trouble please let me know thanx and srry for the long winded post.

that's what I do for the engine oil, but the automatic transmission is really specific on the temp of the fluid.

thank you very much, that's a little more work than other vehicles, I wonder why they try and make it difficult for you check the AT fluid? The reason I wanted to check the level was the trans output seal is weeping ever so slowly and the dealer already replaced the seal and then the whole driveshaft. That was their mistake, the old yoke probably tore up the new seal, just really don't feel like taking it back such a hassle. The service rep guy was all like "the leak is very small and miniscule, I wouldn't spend money to fix it." I'm like dude, its transmission fluid, its kinda important stuff. Its still under warranty I just really don't trust them guys touching my truck.

Your welcome, I would check the level yourself because some dealers have been known to over fill them, you might go to another dealer if it starts to leak anymore.

yeah I'm going to check the level this weekend and see how much fluid actually comes out of the overflow, I wonder though would it leak out of the rear seal if it was overfilled? It should be sealed system. Anyway I'm still gonna check it and then take it in before warranty expires. Its got 90,000 miles warranty up 2016 or 125,000 miles. I've had the truck 3 yrs got it at 70,000 Miles.

I think a little over full wouldn't be bad but 1/2 quart or more might make some seals leak some, but like you said take it in later before the warranty runs out.
