Has anyone figured out a nice, clean spot to mount a full sized radio in our trucks?!?! I want that Uniden 980 ssb so bad, but have no idea where I can put it where it's clean and not in anyone's way!

Maybe OP, or someone else can help with this question. Maybe a dumb question, but I don't know a whole lot when it comes to these things. Anyway, I have this handheld cb radio:
I like to only listen I never talk on it, just listen. So I have that magnet mount where the hood meets the fender by the windshield on the flat part there (2nd gen). I also got a cheapy 2ft antenna to replace the short antenna it came with, to improve my reception.

I have it on the passenger side by the stereo antenna. So my question is, does having it near the stereo antenna affect reception at all? I know it would affect transmission, but like I said, I only listen, so I'm not worried about that.

Also my stereo antenna is an 8 inch shorty antenna, if that makes a difference.

I don't think it should cause a problem. I had a handheld with an external antenna and it helped but it was never very good. Why not put it up on the roof? You will have a lot better performance up there.

I agree, but the wire from the mount isn't very long. So its kind of my best option. I just didn't know if it was better driver or passenger side due to the am/fm antenna being there. And I like it on the passenger side.

I have the same exact set up but I use the mag mount that came with the unit. I mount on the roof right above drivers door and run wire under seat to counsel.
I also never talk, just listen. I would like a better mag mount antenna though.

Yeah I use the same mag mount it came with, just added the 2 ft antenna. I didn't like right by the door(no good for my OCD LOL). Wish the coax was just a little bit longer, and I could put it in the middle of the roof.

Sorry, I have been away for a while.

Having the CB antenna near the stereo antenna should cause reception problems.

Ok, guess I'll be moving it to the drivers side then. Thanks.

Ack! I meant should NOT cause reception problems.

I haven't been typing recently, I think I forgot how.

LOL. I thought it was worded funny, but thought well maybe he's just Hung over or something. Ok, thanks again, that's what I was hoping.

Just mounted my new Cobra. My old one smoked after only 20 years. Going to wire and fire it up tomorrow and see if I need to tune the little wil.
