Yup I need to have dealer do it. Some have reported that they wont do it due to liability issues while others have been charged. The kicker is some say when the battery dies or you disconnect it for whatever reason it goes back to default setting again

    Mike,
Besides your LCA bushings what would you have used an extended warrany for?

Thank God my father in-law had one for his chevy but even still his you had to front the $$$ and they only paid a percent.

Door locks, carrier bearing, the TSB for the engine mount bushings and blower motor and now have a second set of LCA bushings seized (only one so far, hopefully I can break it free).

It's all minor stuff, but expensive or a PITA to fix. Those door lock actuators are $225/ea and 2 out of 4 of mine no longer work. I was able to repair them once and revive them, but they've since died again and the same process won't bring them back. The blower motor I'm still able to re-adjust and lube up but the intervals in which it's required seems to be shorter and shorter. The LCAs the first time were largely from the lift because I needed to align the truck to different specs, otherwise I'm not sure it would have been an issue. Like I said, nothing serious, but those stupid little things that break, like door lock actuators, that carry hefty price tags to replace are exactly why I'd want an extended warranty.

I'll agree with you there with what I went through with the Colorado. 4 times I had to replace the cam actuator, clearly a part not made well in the first place. I believe it is part of the VVT on that engine.

I'll disagree to a point on not making them like they used to..we got Linda's Rav4 with 60K and at 115K now it's needed:

Brakes..including calipers but that was with 110k on the originals.
    Tires..not even bothering to explain.
Windshield wiper arms. That was her fault..they froze to the windshield and she kept turning them on and off.

That all said my issue with the Colorado even after needing all the engine work wasn't that it happened, it was GM didn't stand by their product or their warranty and lied to me repeatedly.

The door lock one is pretty stupid, just that you've gone through it with 2 of them now and more than once on top of it. Main reason I try to steer clear of power stuff in general. Not sure if the actuator is the same as on other Toyotas..Linda's still work fine thank goodness.

That's exactly what I'm talking about though. I have no doubts that the engine and transmission of my truck will run forever, it's been mechanically sound so far and shows no signs of breaking. There are also more and more electronics being integrated into vehicles as well as accessories, all of which can break and usually relatively expensive to replace. That's exactly why I'd want the warranty.

True enough..even if you go my route of not getting add-on like power locks, windows, etc you still have the computers that run the drivetrain. Or you run the risk of needing to upgrade the stereo :D

Well that was interesting.... Put 25 miles on the bike today! Only had to jump it twice. After the second time (while in north reading) I set my idle screw at 5k rpm and got it back home like a bat outta hell

    Fucking charging system!!!!

Got a multi meter. If not pick one up and start poking around to see what kinds of outputs and draws you are getting (this is where a shop manual comes in handy...;))

Might be a burnt wire or something, because after driving at 5-6k, the battery had enough juice to easily start the engine again after I shut it off when I got home, yet before when driving at 3-4k, the starter wouldn't even click

I will attack with a multimeter and a shop manual soon

I knew about the LCA's but forgot about the door locks that you have been having the problem with. Sucks that they cost so much. I have the same problem with one of the doors on my wifes car but that one is 10yo with 200K on it so it makes more sense.

Sounds like you got a screw loose.
