not sure how old you are, but college apps (at least at the CSU level) have changed ... used to be you filled it out and checked colleges you were interested in .. as of 06 it was $55 PER COLLEGE you apply to .... hence the reason i decided i loved chico, applied there only, and luckily got in.

california has some really great things from what i hear but, there are some other things i can't handle like gun control. i'm moving to vermont on a big piece of land from south jersey so i can have a hickok45 set-up in my back yard :)

other than that cali seems pretty cool

not sure what the OP decided to do, ...but if he hasn't decided, i'd put my vote in the "get the hell outta kalifornia" column as well :D

kalifornia is going bankrupt, city by city... more freedom and less taxes in NV, AZ and other surrounding states ;)

Stay out of Spokane too this place is like living in a 1950s black and white television set.
unless you live on the upper south hill the place is a shit hole, the roads have pot holes the size of Rhode Island. No on rolls on low profile tires out here you'll replace a wheel every week.

I don't know if the OP ever decided but seeing as she living in SLO I would say STAY! I moved to Texas for school from Pismo Beach and I hate it with a passion. It's too damn hot and people in Houston are very rude. I'm pursuing nursing and all of the schools have waiting lists in California but once I am done with school I'm going back for sure. Everyone says its so much cheaper to live in Texas well that's not the case so much anymore. Rent here in Houston is getting to be ridiculous. We had a 2 bedroom condo a mile away from the beach that was cheaper than a 2 bedroom apartment here and the condo was much nicer. All I can say is really think about it before you leave California.

Not to be a dick, but I'm part Native American and I'm really tired, actually a lot of us are really tired, of non-Native people bringing us into immigration talks.

Opportunity and over population are polar opposites. You don't get both forever.

Threads a year old but you went to houston of all places. Texas IS CHEAPER theres guys who own businesses in so-cal that fly in for the week, stay in hotels, then cruise back to texas for the weekends.

But theres also the katrina refugees in houston so that may have drove up the rent. I considered moving to a suburb of houston when i lost the job i moved from california to colorado for, and everyone i knew here said if its houston dont go.

i wonder how this played out?

the work is in California. more people = more jobs (in general)

you can move to a funner, more gun happy place..but that wont mean dick, if you cant find a great job.

no, the work is anywhere BUT california ... i NEVER had solid employment there, went almost a year without a job and seeing as youre from the bay area, i bet most of your money gets spent on riding public transit, toll bridges, and gas.

And seriously youre gonna go with the more people more jobs idea. Texas has way more people than colorado and at the emissions testing center i see at least one texas plated car come thru a day, and theres 3 guys who work with me that are from texas.
