Thanks guys:p But more importantly, it was 4 years since I joined TW :woot:

And yeah, actually pulling the whole wiring harness is way easier that trying to work on it while it's still in the dash. It's now laid out across the garage floor and I can sort everything out. Should have done that at the start.

Also gives me room to work on the cage (and yes, not worry about fires :p ) and I'm tossing around a few ideas like ditching the whole heat/AC/blower unit. Possibly mount the brake MC under the dash, maybe the air intake as well. That would give me more room to play with in regards to the engine cage, suspension, and turbo.

Still stripping things down. Engine is ready to be detached but I CAN'T FIND A SECOND LIFTING POINT. WTF:confused: Probably gonna make the radiator support removable.

Looks like the water pump needs to be replaced?

    Holy.......shit......Jon. There isn't a truck left!

Makes sense with the harness but I would never have the patience for that.

Wouldn't it inhibit air flow to the turbo?

Just because the turbo is hooked up to the exhaust doesn't mean it forces air into the engine through the exhaust. The exhaust output from your vehicle spins the turbo which on the other side of the turbo is a air compressor that spins with it. The spin from the air comp sends it into your intercooler and then into the engine.

It may inhibit airflow to the turbo SUPER SUPER SLIGHTLY... but if you are to clean the exhaust portion of the engine, once it starts up again it will be completely dirty.

I assume the picture is of the exhaust? Because if not then all of this I just said is completely retarded :D

And if its the air intake manifold, then it would be helpful to clean out the TB and the manifold, but not 100% necessary!

Thanks for the clarification. This further validates the fact that I don't know shit about trucks haha.

FWIW, at first glance the bottom portion looked as if there was ~1/8" of accumulation . Was just a misaligned gasket that made it look that way. :anonymous:

Speaking of that, any chance I could sell the OEM exhaust manifold or should I just throw it away? Seems to be in good shape (no cracks) but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Also also, same goes for the alternator, A/C compressor, and power steering assembly. All going to the scrap heap or the SAC fund.

Haven't done shit to the truck since last post except removing the exhaust manifold and water pump. I better start welding soon before I come up with any other dumb ideas.

Then I guess I probably shouldn't tell you that I came up with some other ideas that involve more cutting lol.

I realized if I got the crawl box now, I'd still have to wait until I had the 60 at least partially rebuilt and take that into account before I could figure out where exactly the engine and frame was gonna go. So parts came in today to rebuild the kingpins, poly bushings to make the new motor and t-case mounts, 14B pinion guard and axle end upper link bracket.

Since I said F^#& it, and deleted the heat/AC/blower unit altogether, there's a lot of room under the dash now. My tentative 'plan' (haha) is to push the firewall back enough that I can position the engine 4-6" back from the OEM location. I can already get it ~2-3" without modifying the firewall.
This should allow more of the weight shifted off the front end, allow an access panel to the back of the engine/tranny, and with any amount of luck it'll be pushed back far enough to potentially clear the drag link/panhard.

Also looking at options for the brake booster. Either going with a smaller diameter, or hydroboost.

Haha yeah. I initially wanted to keep them but they're just so HUGE. If I'm dying to have either one, there's other (smaller/portable) options out there.

If it's a really bad idea to move the firewall & engine, tell me now because I have Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off from work and I'll be dedicating the entire time to cutting/welding the truck.
