What kind of life are you getting out of your brakes?

I've got an 08 Tacom Double Cab pre-runner with 24k miles and there is very heavy brake pulsation at 30mph or higher when pressing the brakes. Ive had 2 Tundras(01 extra cab and 04 4 door) and they both went through the brakes pretty fast(in fact, the 01 had em all replaced as part of a TSB)m but I'm surprised to see these ones going so quick.

The other fun part is there is a nice clunk in the steering wheel when the pulsation is happening. Not just the normal warped rotor type of shake, but a nice solid "clunk".

And stories of experience with these is appreciated!!

 

Clunk doesn't sound good. Just buy this? If so, maybe it was in a wreck?

 

supposedly the pads can move around causing that clunk.. im getting ready to do my brakes maybe this weekend.. ill take pics n stuff too.
your vibrations may be warped/glazed rotors or pads... take a look at your rotors thru the wheels..any discoloration, big scratches or ridges?

 

Nope. I bought it brand new. It's been doing the clunk off and on since I bought it. We have a few places on rougher dirt roads around here that we'll go down for hiking/camping/etc and sometimes it does the clunk on a nice jolt. I've mentioned it everytime Ive gone in to have service done and they seem uninterested in checking the truck out- "Oh... my lube guys can't look at that, you'll hafta make an appointment."(bullshit! As if they wouldn't have time to perform any upsell work if they tried!!!) It's never seriously bothered me until recently with the bad pulsation Im getting now. I do have an appt tomorrow at the local Toyora dealer... was just curious if I'm the onyl one who's been getting this. Honestly... the post started as a curiosity to see if others were going through their brkaes this fast or if it was just me. lol!!

Yeah, I can see pad shift if it were a reverse to drive or the other way around. But the "clunk" is more of a jolt induced symptom. Or.. as you read... the violent pulsation I am now getting from the rotors(I assume, of ocurse) can get it to clunk soemtimes at freeway speeds.

No... no discoloration that stands out. No bis scratches or ridges either. The rotors look to be in normally acceptable condition. What you'd see on most vehicles. But would not surprise me to see a need for pads. Can't tell withouth the tire off from the angle I get.

Aw heck no! Not had a chance yet.

 

The clunk feels more like there'd be play in the I-shaft. It feels like that kind of clunk.
