    What a shitty day!!

BUddy calls me from Discount Tire asks if I can pick him up while his new tires get installed.."its going to be about a hour and a half." Of course I say sure, and we cam back to my house to chill for a few. We return to get his car, then I follow him to his house to get a key because I will be watching his dogs while he heads of of town for the weekend.

We walk inside, look outside into the backyard (where the 3 dogs are always kept) and see 1 dead dog stiff as a fucking brick. We assume the heat was just too much, even though the dogs are ALWays outside. Snake bite? Heart Condition? we just dont know, and never will.

Pretty sad sight to see and be apart of...:(

    RIP Cologne

1 awesome dog that will be missed...

Funny he always walked around with his toung sticking out, when we found him dead, it was finally in his mouth!

Why was he SOOOO stiff like he had been there for days?

The stiffness was probably caused by rigor mortis. Sorry about your loss, its never fun to lose a bestfriend.

Neon, Cologne was an English Bulldog? If so, they are extremely intolerant of heat. In fact, many have to be kept in a/c cooled off or on ice (I'm not joking) or they can easily overheat when it is very hot and humid.....

Rigor mortis refers to the state of a body after death, in which the muscles become stiff.
It commences after around 3 hours, reaching maximum stiffness after 12 hours,
and gradually dissipates until approximately 72 hours after death.
    Rigor mortis occurs
due to changes in the physiology of muscles when aerobic respiration ceases.

Must have died within 12 hours.. Beautiful dog too, it's sad.

That sucks... sorry to hear it.

It's not worth an autopsy on a dog (IMO), but it sounds like it wasn't just the heat. Maybe one of your guesses in the OP was right.
