Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
i drove it without the a/c on and made me think of old family toyotas and why dont i have wing windows?! so i turned the a/c back on

looking into it is always smart, and i dont disagree. however i do not believe there is a tow package in the case of my 2008 (4cyl manual) there is a factory reviever option. but that is not a tow package (still not listed on toyota today) as the v6 trucks have (oil cooler, trans cooler if automatic, bigger battery and alt, factory reviever and trailer wiring) as well as the truck is rated for 3500. if its a manual tranny then i wouldnt worry about anything just drive it right, if its an auto then losing overdrive (overdrive heats the tranny faster) and driving conservatively is always a good idea. but i towed many thousands of miles and never had any issues at all with the truck related to towing. I would bet i made the trip from my home to my parents 10 times (500 miles each way) and had zero concerns. towing something like 2000 lbs you really dont need any modifacations for reliability concerns. for safety trailer brakes are always good but at less than half the wieght of your truck and 60% of the tow rating on a manual 4x4 4cyl tacoma. by all means its your truck and your money so look into it as much as it takes to be comfortable and satisfied.

my little boat is 2800 lbs plus fuel and gear and i would have no qualms pulling it with my 85 if i had to. but i would MUCH rather with the 2nd gen tacoma of any package.

changed rear diff oil, check transfer case oil and it was still clean, front diff this weekend.

as for the towing, I asked the techs when I was at toyota when I was getting my oil and told them what I would be doing... they said, without hesitation, that my truck would be fine. I'll have all my necessary fluids changed and topped up and have to book to get my tranny fluid checked/changed.

I will only be towing the trailer one way, once, and am in no rush to get to my destination so taking it slower on hills will be fine by me. Also, the trailer is rated at 2480 lbs max. and assessing what we will be putting in there, I'm 99% we won't even be close to it. I asked them regarding a ATF cooler and they said for this size of trailer/load even fully loaded I would be ok.

great info and help though guys, as usual! thanks

fyi... someone needs to make a gif or emoticon that is doing a slow/golf clap lol

Haven't installed it yet, but started assesing where I'm going to mount an ultra-gauge. This this is pretty damn cool! I had it just sitting in a cup holder and it's great to have this info at hand. Most of my recent cars have had something to evaluate gas mileage on the fly and I miss that feature alone.

Wish it showed trans temp though.

Also just got delivered OEM roof rails. Too damn hot to install tonight though: it was still 95+ at 1900.

Looks pretty clean, good job matching the carpet color!

My opinion, needs some sort of grille over it... Maybe one with a big Toyota logo in it ;)
