Trouble removing front axles in 2nd gen

    I'm having serious trouble pulling my front axles out of my differential. I'm putting everything I've got into prying them off with an 18" pry bar and getting nothing. Any suggestions? Anything I could be missing?

    A few bolts are different.
    awesome pdf!! after step 8, will the axle shaft just pull out of the knuckle??

    So I HAVE to "remove the front axle hub nut" before it will come out?

    Thanks for the pdf, those are useful. I usually keep my laptop on the workbench while working on the truck for just that reason. I read that one already, but I'm pretty dense sometimes and try to take shortcuts. :smack: Thank you sir may I have another :D

    right ...right, dont want to go putting motor oil in my trans.

    once you get the new one back through the knuckle/bearings and slide the inboard end back in the front diff. can you tap the outboard end with a piece of wood and hammer to seat it?

    sorry drew I'm not meaning to steal the thread here, I'll need to do this in the near future and maybe it can help you with your axle swap too:)

    A few bolts are different.
    as far as poping it out though I have had many people tell me its not as east with a pry bar. the sudden force/pop of a slide hammer does the trick. use a pipe clamp around the inboard housing and slide hammer claw attachment to get it to stay in place.

    To remove the front diff so I can remove the ring and pinion and ship them to you. :) No worries, with that little nugget, they'll be out tonight and in a box tomorrow.

    The rear is already out and ready to go.

    Yeah. The disk just come right off. Remove the caliper, and the disk slides off the studs.

    Yeah, right. This thing hasn't been removed since the factory and there's a bid of rust. I'll give it a gentle bang (hehe) with a hammer and see if I can't loosen it up.

    You wouldn't happen to know how big that front axle hub nut is. I don't have a big enough socket and have to go buy one... :(

    I measured and it looks like 35mm, but it would suck to come back with the wrong thing.
