    Mr. Proffitt,

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We apologize for the concerns caused by the metal shavings found when replacing the rear differential fluid on your 2011 Tacoma.

Your concern is understandable and we would recommend having your vehicle inspected as soon as possible to determine what has happened and why metal shavings were found in the fluid.

The differential is covered under warranty for 5 years or 60,000 miles whichever comes first from the vehicle's date of first use which was July 16, 2011. The warranty will cover repairs and adjustments needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship based on the inspection and diagnosis of a Toyota dealership.

Please contact your local Toyota dealership to set up an appointment to have your vehicle towed in and inspected. If you prefer, we can contact a dealership on your behalf. If you would like us to do so, please reply to this email with the name of the dealership you would like to work with and we will be happy to follow up with them.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #1307311485.

Keep that !! Print it out.... whatever you gotta do. You're under warranty, so that's the response you should've gotten from them regardless. But now, if your local dealership pharts things up -you have documentation with corporate. Keep track of EVERYTHING with your dealer. CYA (Cover your Azz)
    Good Luck!!

Call a dealer and have them run the VIN. They should be able to tell you anything you want to know ;)

Latest update..... Dealer changed diff fluid. No signs of any more metal shavings. The case is still open with Toyota Corporate and I have to take the truck back in 5000 miles for them to change it again. Fo free.

Copied from the very first post in this thread:

Changing differential fluid - A step by step "HOW TO"
NOTE: 2009 and newer trucks do NOT need LS Diff addative, or TRD Off Road trucks with the factory locker.

Yesterday we (Chris4x4, and I) got together to help you all change your diff fluid.

    Here is what is required;

-24mm socket (1st gen diff may be a different size)
    -ratchet
    -rags/shop towels
-milk jug or coffe can... EMPTY ofcourse!
-3 qts 75-90 weight gear oil ( I used 80-90 becasue it was readily available)

(for you guy like me w/ the Sport model, you'll need a 4oz. tube of LSD additive).

    :notsure:
