I've bought out of state a number of times. In my experience, if its a larger dealership, they may be able to handle everything for you, charge you the correct amount of tax for your state, and give you an out of state temporary tag good for 30-90 days until your new registration is processed. They've usually fedex'd the tags & paperwork once its been processed.

Other smaller dealerships have simply given me the temp tag, not charged sales tax, and FedEx'd the title to me (used car) or given me the certificate of origin (new car) to take to my local DMV to process the registration. At that point the state collects the sales tax along with the registration fee. That was when paying cash so I was getting the title anyway. Not sure how they would work a financed vehicle where the dealer didn't do the title work. Maybe they would send you the title with the lien stamp already on it & the DMV would know to send the new state title directly back to the bank?

Every state is different, so you might want to call & see how they would handle it, especially if you're planning on going over a weekend. I once drove four hours to an out of state dealership, only to be told that their title person wasn't there on the weekends. Why bother being open if you can't send cars over the curb?

An email from jones toyota Maryland if you are interested.

Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to drop you a quick line to see if there is any particular reason that you haven't bought a car from us yet? Is there anything I can help you with? Price? Trade? Anything at all?

We don't lose deals to anybody, so I am pretty sure that price can't be the issue. Jones Junction trains our internet department to tell our clients to just bring in whatever information that they have from other dealerships, and we will get you the deal that you need and want.

And as far as trades, we need them badly! Jones Junction sells around 400 preowned cars a month, and we pay more than anybody for quality trades.

Please just come in, and talk to us. We promise not to waste one second of your time. I promise.

Plus, you will get the untouchable "Jones for a Lifetime" services with your car for FREE and for the LIFETIME of your new car...

'13 TRD OR sport v6 crew with the standard options and step bars out the door for 29,6 - went on the last day of the month and wrangled with them for about 4-5 hours. The funny thing is despite getting 2k off sticker which I knew was huge for Toyota - i got them to move up 3650 on my trade to negate any negative equity!

    DFW
Thanks for the info. This entire thread really came in handy.

After talking with 7+ dealers in DFW, I finally found two who were willing to work more within my price range. I eventually settled on: 4x4, DCSB, white, towing, SR5. Agreed to $28,650. My goal was $28,000-28,500, but the only competitor was in Ft. Worth, and it wasn't worth the drive for me to get my trade-in appraised for a chance of saving a few hundred (I've got plenty of time to wait for a deal, but I don't want to waste my time driving all over the place). This dealer offered me $18,000 for my black, AC Prerunner, with 55,000mi. They're letting me keep my tires & weathertech window deflectors. Bluebook trade-in value is $17,000 recommended trade-in, $19-20,000 for private sale. Carmax also offered $18,000. NADAGuides recommended trade-in values - Rough trade: $18,200, Average trade: $19,450, Clean trade: $20,450, Clean retail: $22,825. I didn't get the best offer, but it's ok.

    SO:
    White DCSB 4WD + Towing pkg + SR5 = $28,650
TTL = $1,034 (only taxed for net balance after trade-in)
    OTD = $29,684
$18,000 trade-in. I had $14,223 payoff, put remainder toward deposit.
Financed = ~$25,9007 @ 2.9% (Better APR than my black AC)

I could have squeezed at least $500-1,000 more on either the price or the trade-in, but I'm satisfied overall. No pics yet, they have to haul it up from another lot.

    Hi guys,

I just bought my first Toyota!!!! Came from a Dakota dc 4x4, sport, v8,. I miss her.

Anyways, I got a new 2013 Tacoma double cab, 4x4, long bed, sr5, tow pkg, and mats, sill protectors for. $28031. I paid tax, title extra. I also got 2k for my trade in, 01 Dakota with 220k miles, and some probs that would have cost me before next state inspection. (Truck looked the balls though).
    Thanks,
    Tom.

Thinking of an access original roll up tonneau, any thoughts ?

    Just bought my 2013 Tacoma!

    Access Cab
    Magnetic Grey Metallic
    4x4 v6 Automatic
    TRD Sport Package
    Window Tint
    Tow Package
    All Weather Floor Mats

    $29,490 (+ttl/fees)

This was $1,500 under the dealer's invoice of $30,990. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of the jbl/navi system option... I really would've liked to have that!

I left pretty happy with my price, and looks like it's right about what everyone ends up paying for these.

    DCLB
Limited Package (Yes, that infamous limited aka Chrome package)
    Magnetic Grey Metallic
    4x4 v6 Automatic
    Tow Package
    All Weather Floor Mats
    Tubes

Paid $33,900 (msrp ~37k) plus $575 Dealer Fee plus TTL (1.7% financing). Purchased in NY metro area, which is generally more expensive then others on the forum unfortunately.

Also opted for a warranty (paid 1300 for 7yr 85K , redeemable in full if not used after 7yrs. Usually not a fan of extended warranty's but said why not)

Also traded in a ten year old accord with a sketchy tranny. Was expecting only to get 2K, but dealer gave me 4K (KB shows 5500K, which I had no chance of getting with a failing tranny).

Initially went in to get a DCLB TRD 4X4, but since they gave me an extra 2K on the trade, and I paid close to invoice on the limited (granted its a bit pricey), so I said why not.

On a side note, I don't mind the chrome or the 18 inch rims, seems like a good amt of guys hate both for whatever reason. Overall, think I got a decent deal for a pretty sharp looking truck.

I have been lurking around the dealers.. Thay want 31400 not including tax, title, etc. for
DBL 4x4 l/b with trd sport package sport suspension. (This is the package right below the Entune) and tow package

I dont think is it that great of a deal. I am still working on it though.

Not sure how the shipping process goes. The truck I want is about 2.5 hrs away.. Is it better to drive to the lot or try and do the deal local?

It's not a great deal, but I wouldnt say its a bad deal at all. In my parts I received quotes anywhere from 31,500 to 32,200. You will see some guys on this forum getting your truck for 30,500-31,000,but I was never able to get that deal anywhere near me (NY metro area). I guarantee if you went to a local dealer, had a check in hand, and told them you want the truck for 31,000 flat , with maybe some side steps thrown in, you would get it.

Sport Packages? One is 1630 and the other is 3200.. Is it really worth it to have to 3200 package?

This is for DBL Cab 4x4 L/B
