Tell him to look into plasti-dipping the whole thing instead. End result is more durable, more protective & a heck of a lot less expensive. I looked into both because I was going to go flat black too & vinyl was just too expensive.

you think plasti dip would be more durable than the vinyl? even when washing it and accidentally nicking it with a fingernail or having rocks chip the front hood area, i would worry about the plasti dip pulling up

It doesn't pull up. While I haven't done an entire vehicle I have done lots of things with plasti-dip and I can tell you the stuff is wildly durable & difficult to pull up. Watch the videos from that guy on the dip your car website and you'll see how much of a struggle it is to get a corner up to peel the panel off. It's harder than you think. Since it's a rubber material it has more flex to it and helps to absorb rocks & such more than vinyl can too. For that application I think it's great. If he wanted colors not available in plasti-dip or wanted graphics then by all means, vinyl is the way to go. To do a flat black vehicle though I think it's the cheapest & easiest way to go.

Also, if anyone has a Smashburger nearby or likes to eat there be sure to sign up for the email alerts because they send out good coupons regularly. They just sent out another BOGO entree coupon the other day. Here it is for those who didn't get it:
