    Only works on our old trucks with the canister up front and not on the fuel tank like the "newer" body style 1st gens. IIRC

    Edit: but can still be done at the tank

    hey if its someone who does a good job then its worth my money. I saw a thread on here for a soft topper but the guy went MIA and has terrible reviews from people who have attempted to contact him. thanks for the help

    that goes for anyone else that wants it or the 1st gen manual too. the 2nd gen is not organized but the first gen (01-04 only) is organized pretty well. also, idk what year range the 2nd gen manual covers

    I'd hold off on the RTV. Shouldn't need to pull the 3rd.

    Gear oil isn't necessary unless you want to change it out.

    Do you need to do one or both axles?

    Ah, this is interesting new information. I've never even checked my gear oil so I'm going to at least have it on hand. Plus RTV is good to have around I guess. I'm doing both. I only hammered on the passenger's side before, but I imagine the driver's is in the same condition.

    I referenced my Chiltons (Haynes?) manual and it was extremely detailed.
    1. Jack up rear of vehicle
    2. Remove axle
    3. Installation is reverse order.:rolleyes:

    The FSM adds a couple steps:

    1a. disconnect brake line
    1b. remove axle end bolts

    Seriously. :)

    Unless the axle end bolts or the brake line coupler are frozen, taking it apart will go quick. I saw Silas yesterday and forgot to ask about the race for seating the new axle seal.
