So I need some help off the ledge.

Against my better judgment I went into the dealer for my first "free" 5K service (I like to do my own service work). I don't have to drive that much currently so my truck only has 3300 miles on it but it has been six months since I purchased. Also there were a couple of little noises from the drivetrain I wanted checked.

So I get to the dealer and a helpful mechanic takes my and my truck for a drive. He says he hasn't heard a noise like that before but will drive another new one tomorrow and see if it is something he can replicate. If not he will have me come back to do some more research. This is about 5:30 last night.

The lube guys take it for an hour. I get called up truck is ready to go. Lube service guy says it was taken for a drive and they couldn't replicate the noise. I say, I went for a drive with a mechanic before and he heard the noise he is supposed to look into it more tomorrow. Lube guy says oh, ok I will make a note. I think well just another miscommunication.

I go out to my truck. It has been washed, I asked specifically several times not to wash it. Great get, get in my baby to take off truck wont' move. I think what the hell. Try again drags rear passenger tire about 4'. I stop get out and am now freaking out. I brought in my truck with 3300 miles for a simple oil change now I have a 30,000 dollar paperweight I can't move.

So in the end they give my a loaner Avalon to use and say they will get back to me today. I had some problems with this dealer when I bought it, I let them know that it isn't the people I am dealing with now that I had the previous problem with. But every time I ask for something ie: certain transmission when ordering, don't drive the found truck in I will pay for it to be trucked, don't' wash it, I have bee lied to.

    Am I overreacting?

Has anyone heard of something like this happening to a truck with so few miles?

Sorry for the long rant, I just really like my vehicles and I sold an 2002 I loved and the experience so far has been a nightmare.

Give them time to fix it. I would not get so upset about them washing it. Many of those lube guys follow the same process, so you have one person with a one off request, it can get missed.

Well, this happened to me (not after the dealer)... I think brake pads got stuck... just hit reverse, accelerate a little, then drive and now you are ready to go...

Sometimes if water enters to the brake drums, the pads "stick" to the drums and that's why the tire doesn't move...

Thanks for the idea, we did try to go in reverse and it wouldn't move.

Even engaged 4, 4 lo, and rear diff locker everything engaged and disengaged correctly (at least made the right noises underneath and the lights did what they should).

I am still hoping it is somehow still a stuck brake like you are saying.

Give them time to make it right. Keep a paper trail (names, times, etc) of everything that occurred just in case.

That was probably the worst thing you could have done. If things don't move, forcing them to do so is how you break expensive parts. Hopefully they get it fixed but if it happens again, I wouldn't try to force it.

I was thinking the same thing. One of the mechanics that came out suggested we try it. No power was put to the tranny when engaging. Just happened that everything went in and out smoothly with no movement to the truck needed.

The first almost sounds like a heat shield from the exhaust rattling. At very low rpm when say going up a slight hill slowly from a start it rattles. For awhile I was thinking it was the rear inner fender liners rattling on the fenders, but I don't know for sure.

The second noise I actually had gone in to have them check at 1,500 miles. It just seems like the drive train has a bit of slope. Compared to my 02 when shifting the drivetrain just seems to have more noise and slop in it. The mechanic that rode with me at 1,500 and the one who went out yesterday said this was a complaint they have heard about the 4.0 w/ 6 speed and it is normal.

Thanks for suggestions. I know what you mean about the motors being noisy, and the Taco tick. I run 89 octane. The 2nd noise is hard to describe is sounds to me like what it might sound like if there was a bunch of slop in the driveshaft. But I checked yesterday before I took it in and the driveshaft had barely any movement to it.

I think you may be on to something about the pebbles for the first noise.

    Thanks again for your ideas.

So the dealer just called and said it is the "brake cup". I know a bit about cars but I have no idea what this is.

Does this make sense to anybody?

I think its a rubber part that goes over 2 certain bolts, allows the pad holder and caliper to slide

Was the car wash one of those automated run on tracks kind? Those things are bad news.

Saying its the brake cup sounds odd. Perhaps they just don't want to say they didn't lube that part as well as the 2 bolts that allow the caliper to slide in relation to the pad holder..... in other words the brake froze.

keep note of that brake assembly, when/if the pads wear unevenly, that means it still isn't sliding right.

It was a rear wheel that was stuck, the rear doesn't have disc brakes...

But what ndub86 said it could be one of the Cup Seals in the brake wheel cylinder inverted binding one of the brake shoes.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
Oh, another one of these low RPM/under load 'rattle' people. Welcome to the club. There's 4 or 5 others here with '12 and '13 MY trucks talking about the same thing, and mine is doing it too - 14.7k on the clock, started about 14.1k. Actually, mine may have been doing it longer, as I can only hear it with windows up and radio off. (Too much trigger time behind the .50BMG). FWIW, it seems to be a problem on by 6 speed manual and 5 speed AT equipped trucks.
