it is kind of frustrating when you're making those runs down abandoned airstrips side by side with your buddy, and all the sudden you stop pulling, look down and its a measly 110 (106 GPS) I wish there was an effective way of bypassing this, i know these trucks have enough gear to see 140 easily. I'm just gettin into 5th when I feel it nose over on the limiter

Hmmm......why not just disconnect the speed sensor

Where is the speed sensor? And wouldn't that negatively affect other components that use it like the transmission.

On the transmission. I would only do it if you have a manual. Only problem I had before was that the gas needle fluctuated with the fuel movement.

This thread is teetering on legal :D

OP why are you looking to see the power ratings at over 110? I assure you it's not pretty, these trucks stumble into the triple digits (as you probably know). I thought you'd see the most gains in the power band?

Dyno runs should be done locked into direct drive (3rd).
That's getting you over 100mph on the wheels?

It's a safety issue, seriously, to keep idiots from killing themselves.

I know an XR or lowered 5-lug is going to handle better than a stocker, but I had my '03 Tundra to it's limiter (about 105) up in Victorville at George AFB (after it closed and was turned over to Victorville) and the front end was REALLY light. I would not have wanted to have been there on a smaller truck or a 4x4.

I saw tooter posted in another thread he had some pretty high rear gears in his truck, maybe 3.30 or 3.20 that should put him well over 100 in 3rd or 4th (if hes got a manual)

What if you have an '09+, some form of F/I, and want to go to the drag stip, off-road, road course, or other venue of speed.

You truck makes the power to go faster than the speed limiter, but the speed limiter prevents you from reaching those speeds.

You don't want or have the money to add in a wire in aftermarket ECU. What do you do? Squash your desire to overcome a challenege? Of course not.

So what if a person wants to go faster than the speed limiter. It is up to them to make the right choices when and where to do so, but that isn't the topic of dicussion here. Just how to.

110, but w/ factory tires (31's) GPS verifies out to about 106 :jerkoff:

That's right. My 5 lug has really high 3.31 street gearing. Redline in 5th gear is 168mph!

It's not that much of an issue as the 2.7 doesn't have much top end to begin with. I'm far more interested in dyno logging the low end performance.

Ya... My Vulcan 1600 has a theoretical max of around 145, but it goes faster in 4th than it does in 5th. Wind resistance is a real drag.

 I see what you did there.

That is correct. There would be no signal so the speedo wouldn't work.

Or dry lake bed, which is usually cheaper.

There are typically three reasons for the mfr to set the speed limiter:

    1. Mfr hasn't tested car above the limited speed for stability.
    2. OEM tire speed rating.
    3. Gentleman's agreement (usually 155 mph, seen on German cars and some Toyotas like the Supra).

The Taco's OEM tires are T-rated, good for 118 mph, hence the 110 mph limiter.

An aftermarket ecu that controls the TB, will allow you to bypass the governor.

The TB closes to limit the speed, once the predetermined speed has been reached.

I decided it was best not to mess around with the speed limiter. So we did 4th gear runs for the low end torque data where the speed limiter cut them off at 4,700rpm, and then did a 3rd gear run just to get the rest of the horsepower data up to redline.

    137hp @ 4,700rpm
    147hp @ 5,700rpm

As you can see, there's not much going on with the 2.7 at the top end anyways. ;)
