Let me get this straight, if I push the "VSC OFF" button, I turn *ON* the Auto LSD? Therefore, the red "AUTO LSD" light comes on as well as the "car that's sliding" light (when stopped or going slow). This means that the Auto LSD is *ACTIVE* and that if one wheel starts to slip on gravel as I floor it through a curve, the truck basically slams on the brakes.

Assuming that's all correct, if I don't push that button...and floor it through said curve, basically the same thing will happen..????

*BUT*....if the truck is stopped and I hold the "VSC OFF" button for 3 seconds, I turn everything off??

I guess...what I'm wondering, in the end, is how do I turn off *EVERYTHING* so that the truck behaves without ANY assistance??

    yeah...

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...

    turn the key to off....lol

i think that if u press and hold like ur talking, ur cutting off VSC and keeping the autoLSD off too. the press once will turn the autoLSD on and the VSC off until you reach 30-35mph, then the VSC turns back on...or atleast what i can tell from playing

According to the manual which doesn't seem very clear, holding the VSC button for more than 3 seconds turns it off and the "VSC OFF" indicator turns on. You have to push the button again to turn it on, it will not reactivate until you push the button again.

When you push the button and the AUTO LSD light comes on it will reactivate when the vehicle speed increases.

I want to turn mine off too, I guess I will do the 3 second thing. Hopefully it turns the damn thing off.

I'm glad I'm not the only one confused about all the traction control options on the 09's!! I read the manual and still don't understand the alphabet soup worth of features that it's got.

I gave my buddy's 09 4x4 a good test on snow this past winter. VSC definitely safens her up, but puts the kabosh on shenanigans.

    2wd
    -Default VSC & TRAC on.
-One button push, TRAC off now AUTO-LSD on. VSC Still on.
-Stop, hold button forever (ok seemed like 6-7 seconds) 'beep' AUTO-LSD on, but VSC is off, time for doughnuts.

4hi, trying to remember, but believe default was VSC on, don't think there is TRAC in 4wd.
Push button, VSC off. 4x4 doughnuts

    4lo really can't remember

I'm confused a Fug on my '09 too dude. I just want to drive my truck the way I see fit, end of story. I've hit the traction button, which I believe turns ON the auto lsd up to like 35mph. I tried going around a corner like Bo Duke... piece of shit over rode me. Not sure how to have fun in this truck. I'm about to start pulling fuses to this shit. All I wanted was the ABS & E-Locker... and ABS was iffy.

Time to trade down for a 05-08! Or stop and hold button for long time, beep, be free to powerslide.

sounds like yall got too many buttons:) I love how my 05 has none of that mess, but the auto lsd would be cool to have. e brake lsd is a good substitute though. good luck with the buttons fellas....

Yeah, It really sucked a week after I got my truck in Feb. I pulled into the work parking lot with just a covering of snow.. I went to go sideways and all these lights and beeps started going off, And the brakes started making funny noises.....
    It broke my heart....

    It sucked...

    Impossible without hacking your wires.

also, the VSC will kick on or off depending on the speed you go, that'S why sometimes the red VSC off will be lit and other times it won't. I think the limit is like 15mph.

You will only pwoerslide up to a certain wheel speed, that is too low to really pwoerslide. You have to hack your system to get the VSC off all the times

FJ do it all the time since they had this system since 1997

I'm going to have to disagree with you slightly here.

I went out today to do a little "investigating". :D

Basically, truck was started and in Park, I held the "VSC OFF" button for a few seconds and the "Car is sliding around" light came on. The red "AUTO LSD" light stayed off.

I was all, "Okay. Sweet. I must have turned off the VSC and the LSD."

I hit some gravel roads and my ass was sliding around like hell with NO assistance, dinging, warning, lights coming on or anything.

So yeah, doing that leaves the diff open and turns off all the assistance. I was hitting curves going like 50mph and then stomping on the gas on my way out. *wheel spin!*

    Everything was off.

    WORD.

I can see myself hacking.... I really hate all these nanny items. Let's do a break down... :

-E-locker. Only usable in 4 LO. Need to do the mod so I can use it in 2wd & 4HI.

-AutoLSD/Traction control: uses traction control to create a LSD type traction I' guessing. Kicks off above 35mph.

-VSC. this is to keep you in a straight line, b/c the government doesn't think you're a big enough boy to drive a car. From what I read/gather you can turn it off and do a 15mph "shananagan". Totally Gay.

-Down hill assist. Who the heck cares about this...

    -Atrac? I think it's a 4wd traction control.

Entirely to much crap-O-La. I'll get my permission slip signed by my mommy so big brother will let me drive my power wheels the way I intend.

Come to think about it. I think we should make this a Sticky Tech Tip item. List all the systems and info about them as possible.

Thats a good idea. Add to that the different Lsd and Auto Lsd for the tacomas since it changed up and the pre 09 models are different.

To sum it up, time to hit the trail w/ your 4x4!

    If you have a 05-08. Choose 2wd, 4hi, 4lo.
SR5 open rear diff, Sport Mech LSD diff always 'on', Off-road can lock diff in 4lo, also DAC and HAC buttons.

If you have a 2009. All in 2wd have VSC/TRAC default. Or you can push the button and get a e-LSD, or you can stop, hold the button to shut off VSC. In 4wd you have vsc on, push button to shut it off. No Auto-LSD fuction like in 2wd. 4lo disables VSC? whats the button do?
TRD Offroad push the button for locker in 4lo, then can push button for A-trac when in 4lo. Locker disables VSC and ABS. You also have DAC push that button going down a hill. Think HAC button is gone, damn.

After refering to your traction cheat sheet taped to the dash, choose your setting, your ready to hit the trail, oh wait also you have to push the RSCA button to shut off airbags.

    Toyota, oh what a feeling!

You did not have everything off (boith VSC and TRAC). Read your owner's manual.

It's not because you can slide the rear that everything is off.
