That's what you get for mentioning a bad idea. See above.

What do you guys think about putting a solid axle up front with leaf springs? I think it would be a lot easier, and it might flex the same?

 karma restored, see comment below.

That's not an easy mod. The gen 2 I saw easily had over 6" of lift to accommodate 35's with lots of flex. New job got you looking to spend all your money?

Well addicted off road has a leaf spring IFS eliminator kit. I priced out the cost of that vs an SAS with coilovers on my 4Runner and the leaf spring on an old Toyota front axle saves me about $4,000

    As AWESOME as this is

I don't have the down time, shop, tools, parts, or skills to hang an axle on a 4 link

Leaf springs up front would work fine although the fabrication to make them work would be pretty significant.

I'm of the opinion that a leaf setup would be much easier to install than a C/O. A C/O setup would involve a 4-link, strut mounts, etc.

One way to find out. Alex, do your SAS using leaf springs, and we need a volunteer to set up their SAS with coilovers. :D

I think you're right though, leafs would be easier and probably cheaper.

Contacted allpro about being a test dummy for an SAS kit.

I looked for an FJ SAS kit and I found allpro made one, but couldn't find it on their site. The FJ and 4Runner have the same frame, so I think it would work

I'm all for installing it, I just don't know how to piece it together. If I had all the parts I'd be happy. Pay an off road shop to install it too so I don't fuck it up

I had an awesome day today! I'm still giddier than a school girl! I went to the gun range for a 1911 shooting clinic. More precisely on target shooting with the 1911. The guy teaching the clinic, and whose guns I got to use, was Brian "Gunny" Zins! 12 time national pistol champion, and all around shooting legend. He uses the Cabot Guns (http://cabotgun.com/) 1911. Hands down, the single most amazing pistol I've ever shot. They are quite literally 100% perfect. So perfect these guns don't need oil, they only have it on the components that will rust ( ) check out the website... The cheapest gun they have is the GI Classic ($4750) one of which I shot today (and Brian's personal carry weapon) along with his target gun he usses to compete with. It has a scope on it... 1.5" spread at 50 yds straight out of the box from the factory. No modifications whatsoever. Literally these are the only production guns that you don't have to modify to be the most accurate, most reliable, most perfect pistols you can buy. They aren't cheap, but they are the best. Also no maintainence at all because the components will not wear down.

Please read up about them on the website. The tolerances on the guns are down to the millionths of an inch.

Seems like an awesome gun but for 5k entry levels seems insane. Lots of 1911's out there which are great shooters for under 1k. At least for me, no need to pay competition prices for a gun I am going to plink with

Dude, that shit isn't an install, it's a serious modification. But you don't need a kit...

All you need: plasma cutter, really nice mig welder, advanced understanding of driveline geometry, a vehicle lift, $3-5k in new parts and materials (depending on how well you can source them), and all of the proper tools.

The guns are ridiculous. It was a blast! But yeah, those guns are just so nice, so expensive. Way out of my league, I mean they're so accurate there is no excuse for missing. Thankfully I hit every target, and pretty close to center. But still... Kinda nerve racking, especially with Brian hovering over your shoulder while you use his $10,000+ target pistol. One of the guns Cabot brought was $30,000! Can you imagine? It was custom made with mammoth ivory, hand polished by one guy, with a stone to a 2 micron mirror finish. More reflective than most mirrors... But the thing is it would be the last 1911 you would ever buy. The gaps are too small to let any debris in, there is a 100% contact between the slide and frame with no high points, so no wear. Brian's carry 1911 has had like 6,000 rounds through it and he has still yet to clean it. I think he said he's run a snake brush through the barrel because that's the only part on the gun Cabot doesn't machine from a billet block of steel.
