There are easier ways to take off decals

I like vehicles without a bunch of stickers if it gives you another opinion.

When my '93 Blazer was hit from behind, they totaled based on the tailgate damage and suspected the frame was tweaked (it still tracked straight), but in determining the value (Conditions and Options) they went over that thing with a fine toothed comb.
Tried to reduce my value because of a stain on the carpet in front of my seat. Fought that one because the stain was from my iced tea that dumped during impact.
They noted the condition of ALL fluids and how well the engine was running... even measured tire pressure and tread.

They sure didn't act like it in my case.

They acted like the truck was radioactive waste and it needed to get out of my parking lot quicker than Anthony Wiener sending a text. Lowballed me on the value and I held them up for 3 weeks before they came up with a value I would accept (still low, but I knew they wouldn't go any higher).
So then they wanted to pick it up that evening... I told them that they could pick it up when my check was on a FedEx truck because it was my only transportation and they weren't providing me with a rental (I lied, I had the cruiser).

    True true.
Boss's father's Accord was stolen from in front of boss's house and it took them almost 3 months to issue the check.
They put him through an anal probe... credit checks, interviews with family and co-workers, why was the car parked there overnight, etc....
They even went through the maintenance/repair history to verify whether or not there were any chronic issues.

If they can find any financial weakness, they really push the investigation since you may have motive.

The car was located in the high desert about 6 months later when the cops busted a crack house.

All depends on when you can get to it. After the adjusters have had their time and its just sitting at a garage before it gets scrapped, if the garage is cool with it parts can "walk away". I've done it before, and I'll do it again.

Some people play by the rules set forth by corporate assholes, others take advantage.

Not really. If they're going to total and scrap my truck I'm salvaging whatever I can. I'm not overly concerned about hurting the feelings of an insurance company.

But it's good to know folks like you are looking out for them.

I swapped my wheels out when I totalled a Nissan Titan a few years ago. I got permission from the salvage yard, who OK'd it with the insurance adjuster. I went to the salvage yard, took the wheels off it and replaced them with the stock wheels. One of the stock wheels was broken in half though lol. I figured it would blend it with the rest of the truck, it was a rollover.

I know we're getting off topic here, but usually a totaled vehicle doesn't go to a scrap yard. It goes to an auction to be sold. Either a rebuilder will buy it, or a junkyard.

Mine went to a scrap yard. Then I did the wheel swap, then it went to auction later. It has to go somewhere in between so that the insurance company can look at it. It was there for a few weeks, I drove by it every day :D

Put on a soft topper, touched up my front skid plate. Washed it, and changed the oil.

If they total your truck they are paying you for it as it is when it is evaluated - Pulling parts off for them to "walk away" IS stealing. Do whatever you like, but don't advocate it on this site.
