My '06 sounds like 1950's model truck going down the road, the rear springs are louder than the exhaust note. I've had someone bounce in the bed while I'm underneath but I can't tell if the sound is from the shackle bushings or the leafs rubbing together. I'm leaning towards it being the bushings because it sounds like metal on rubber more than metal on metal. Do the bushings tend to harden and break down with 7yrs and 100k miles on Tacomas? Or is it more likely I'm hearing the leafs rub?

Probably a little of both, you need some anti squeak pads for leaf ends & a little grease on the shackle pins/bolts, but no grease on the rubber bushing itself as this has a tendency to promote the bushing to rot because of the petroleum based lubes..

It's the leaf springs rubbing together you need the updated silencer pads

Is that a dealer item or aftermarket?
