    ^^This.

    ^^And this.

I go in through the fenderwell and just use some of the old oil to lube the rubber seal on the new filter.

Edit: I see you have a 2.7. My first tacoma was a 2.7 and I honestly can't remember where/how I got to the filter on it haha.

Its mounted vertically upside down. I wrap a plastic bag around mine and ease it off letting the bag catch the majority of the oil. Its still very awkward. I just oil the gasket on my filters prior to putting it on. I also just give it one hard turn just after its seated so i can get it off easily the next time.

^^^Good to know I don't have to fill the new filter, thanks.

I tried reaching through the fender well for the filter, but it was just too far in there to get any leverage to twist it off. Maybe if I had some fancy ratchet attachment it would work, but I was just doing a hand job on it.

I did put some oil on the filter gasket though, luckily the oem filters have step by step installation instructions on them for noobs like me. :)

I just mounted it with the hardware given. I did shave some with the dremel to aim them properly.

I just hit 300,000 miles on the original motor and tranny, washed it, and then took a couple new pictures...

Haha. Gotta do what ya gotta do to get it off.;) Should have got my GF to take it off, would have been my entertainment for the day.:) She did a great job holding my POS Canadian Tire funnel though. Maybe next time I'll get one that threads into the valve cover, and a fumoto valve too maybe..
