It comes down to how much you trust him. I see that some of you guys mention "that's what insurance is for." I don't know about your insurance, but mine doesn't cover stuff like cigarette burns, spilled drinks, soiled floor mats, love stains, extreme/excess mileage, parking tickets and the like.

You must be of high school/college age, give it some time...

If this was the type of relationship he has with his friend he wouldn't be asking the internet.

I would for a GOOD/BEST friend. I mean if they are your best friend they will know how dear your truck is to you and treat it with respect.

Although i've let my brother borrow my truck and it came back with a dented bumper

    correct

especially when he learns the concept of liability.

no one borrows my vehicle, EVER.

had someone ask recently to borrow my truck to move some patio furniture...without hesitation, I said NO. however, if I can help you move the stuff I will.

Family, since you don't have a choice about them, you are allowed to both love and hate simultaneously.

I've only owned a truck for the last couple of years. I found that people wanted to always borrow it when they move etc. I have no problem with that, but I am going with my truck(I make sure everything is secure within the vehicle). I don't lend out money like I don't lend out my vehicles. If it makes a bad person, friend to some of you then so be it. But I guess it makes us wonder how come you have to come online and ask us that OP? What kind of friend are you?

For emergencies, life or death is one thing. But for a date is another. If the girl is only going to be impressed(deal breaker) by what kind of vehicle you drive then she probably ain't worth going out with anyways. What's the point of lending out your vehicle for that date, she's going to find out what your drives as a daily driver regardless if she thinks it's a POS or not.

I agree with you. If they asked to borrow my truck and I said no and never offered to come and help myself. Then yes, that would make be a bad friend.

So even if the girl was ugly OP(according to you and not your friend), would you still lend you vehicle out?

    This is how I feel.

OP, what type of motorcycle does your friend have? It sounds to me like he should have bought a car/truck rather than a bike.

I've got a lot of friends that drive cars/Jeeps rather than trucks. They expect people to loan them their trucks when they need one. Sorry, I had Jeeps for years and love them, but when I bought a house and I realized I was going to need a truck it was bye bye Wrangler, hello Taco. Why should I have to sacrifice driving what I would rather have, have the added expense compared to a car (gas, higher insurance and taxes, etc.)and then be expected to loan out my truck to someone that won't do the same.

Quick story, my uncle loaned his truck to a friend. The guy was rear ended by an uninsured motorist. My uncles insurance covered the repairs and then dropped his coverage. He had a hell of a time finding another insurance company to cover him, and when he did his rates were nearly double what they originally were.

No one ever said, "it was wrong". It's just a decision that people are not going to agree with you on(difference of opinion). This story of this posters Uncle is some of the reason why people won't lend out their vehicles. Also for a lot of people, they use their vehicles to get back and fourth to work, for work etc. To a lot, it's their life if they don't have their vehicle. Not a lot of people have more than one vehicle. Maybe you have access to another vehicle if yours is an accident or written off? For example, if you ran a construction company. Would you want to be doing your work in a rental car? Taking materials back and fourth etc, I highly doubt it.

It's not that we're being judgemental. Everyone has different experiences in life and refrain from doing certain things. You'll see as you get older than your opinions of things throughout your life will change. You may see things as one way now but in 5-10 years etc, you could think differently about it.

How is it judgmental to say no to a request to borrow a vehicle?
