    Nevermind. I did it..... And I failed. When removing the tape some sections of the grill peeled off. Anyone got any tips for touching it up?

    I have not done a lot of dipping, but my best results were to pull the tape when the derp is still wet. even if you have to tape again for next coats.
    For touching up I guess you just have to tape again and spray again. Some guys have posted about how easy it is to touch up.

    Cheaper than buying a can, one can at a time. I figured it might be cheaper for some of us who buy lots of dip and who don't get it from the USA.

    So... i found out that shoe polish works pretty well for filling tears / divets; then just spray over it... perfectly blended without all the hassle and jazz

    haha! pretty randomly. I put some masking tape over a dipped spot that was very thin, which was stupid: because...
    when I peeled off the tape it slightly peeled up the dip, and left some adhesive on it
    I knew there was no way (well, not with my patience level) to remove the adhesive without removing the dip too;
    so, I decided I just get my black magic marker and make the adhesive black. hahaha
    well, I couldn't find my magic marker...............................
    but!!! I did find some black shoe polish
    and the rest is history

    3" lift EIBACH coils w/ 5100's front, OME/ Dakar leaf springs w/ toytec adjustable shackles at 1.5" and 5125's out back. 33x10.5x15 KM2's Relentless DIY steel bumper.
    It's easiest done with the grill off the truck. You can plasti dip the center part but since its already black I just taped and covered with newspaper. If you have a billet grill then that's your option on covering it up or dipping it.

    As for tips... Try doing what you can off the truck (grill) otherwise when pulling the tape off it will pull some of the dip with it. You can try pulling FAST, sometimes that works. Or you can pull the tape after you spray each coat, which means you have to retape after every coat.

    I need to see some pics in about a month cause this can't stand the test of time. Mine as well just strip and reapply the dip for that sure thing long lasting finish.

    Any one ever put down the plasi-dip then paint over it. On something like the radio trim? I want to change the color but if I dont like it I would like to remove it

    It can be done but is a pain to remove. Dipyourcar core has a video of it on YouTube.

    for a "sure thing long lasting finish" PlastiDip is not doing it right to begin with: if PlastiDip was sure and long lasting I wouldn't have to worry about patching cause I lightly nicked it with my boot heel; so, i don't feel too bad about it

    when I have the money to actually do it right, I'll be calling up the local Line-X guys. Not everlastingly stripping and reapplying PlastiDERP

    I never said it was permanent, I said "long lasting" which people report years of maintenance free usage of dipped items. If you're in a situation where the dipped surfaces will take some abuse then you're correct, plasti dip isn't the right thing for you to begin with. However when an item is dipped correctly (proper cleaning and drying before application, proper environment to apply the dip, properly laid coats, ample dry time between coats and ample evenly laid coats) you can get a solid dip that should last even years in some cases. Just sounds to me like you didn't do a good job the first time. It's one of those things you know when you have right and from the sounds of it you just didn't get it right.

    Line-X is a different story, it's permanent, expensive and leaves a ugly finish.
    And it belongs in a different thread.
