I actually just hit 20k and I drive cali weather all the time the weather doesnt change all too drastically. The change has been very noticeable for sure.

I have to say jumping out of a 450+HP V8 To this the power was very pleasing. My initial response when I first punched it from a light was Hory Shet! This things got balls! I have always been very pleased with the power output it has for sure as well, but as haul more wouldn't be bad. Lol.

20k miles, and its finally breaking in. Keep an eye on your MPG, as they should be going up a couple more.

That might explain why the exhaust note has changed recently, drives easier and just feels overall better and smoother.

You think the MPG is going to be going up to?

Seems that between 20 and 25k things finally "settle in" on the 1 GR. My mpg went up at around that mileage, and the trucked seemed to be a little more lively.

No. I read that the Tacoma V6 is faster then the Dodge Ram Sport with a Hemi from 30MPH to 60MPH the other day. So no I don't think it's under powered.

It's really hard to gauge mileage on it because I just drive it and drive it. I have always seemed to get great mileage around 22-24 hwy which is what I usually drive it on when I am not wheeling... So you think it'll go up even more so hmm? I am happy to find out what you are telling me. This truck has treated me great so far, if it gets sweeter from here I am ALL for it!

This is a badass truck. I think lot of people have underappreciated the capabilities of this truck in it's standard configuration as a V6.

The only folks I've heard whining about power are either driving an automatic, are idiots that don't know how to drive in the first place, or both.

Manual tranny with the 4 OR the 6 = plenty of giddy'up.

Could also be more ethanol or different additive mix in the 87.

Technology had advanced since 2003 (when the 1GR debuted). Competing engines: 3.6L Pentastar in Grand Cherokee makes 290 hp. 3.7L base F-150 engine makes 307 hp. Even the dual-VVTi 1GR makes 270 hp: it's hard to be content when you know it's possible to have more power without sacrificing fuel economy or reliability.

While the 4-speed on the 2.7L is slow, the 5-speed on the 4.0L is quite good. It downshifts quite willingly. The 5-speed is faster to 60 mph and in the 1/4 mile than the 6-speed, according to Car and Driver testing.

I can tell you this much: with close to 1000 pounds in the back, going to an UPhill onramp to a 70MPH I95, I have 0 issues with power on my 2.7. I merge at traffic speed with no problem.

If the automatic can't do this, I'm sorry, that seems underpowered, for sure. But don't blame the motor. The 2.7 in my lil Betty has plenty of hot sauce. That's a problem with transmission, gearing, suspension, etc. But the motor isn't the problem, and isn't underpowered.

I have all the power I need even at mile high altitude, no speed racer aspirations here.

I've driven a few cars with 6 and 7 speed autos lately, and I think a better trans with smoother shift points would really help out the 4.0 engine in performance and MPG. Power is not the issue for me, it's how it's delivered.

Depends. Towing 4000 lbs. Not underpowered, but somewhat stressing. No load...this thing flies. Hopped on the freeway today. Jammed the accelerator. Up to 70 mph quick!!!!

If anything on mine is underpowered, its the bloody drum brakes in the back. You get up over half a ton in the bed, she stops like Rosie O'Donnel at an all you can eat buffet.

I mean, really? It's a 2008 for fucks sake. Drums went out 30 gorram years ago. Get with it already.
