NORCAL: Camping & Wheeling - Deer Valley - 8/23-8/25

PMs sent to folks that haven't responded for food and/or departure times yet. I want to give ample time for Jerry to prepare for food.

Once Jerry gets the food, he'll let us know how much $ to chip in per person, and if we need anything else to bring.

 

Its one mile on a map but the trail it self is longer as it snakes around mountins .It takes about 6 to 8 hours there and back the trail is not simple.

 

I'm getting pretty pumped for this trip. I've been wanting to go on a camping trip up in this area ever since I got out here, and a wheeling trip too, icing on the cake.

 

I spent the week at blue lakes, went down deer valley Wednesday, the closure marker was ripped out. I didn't know the exact location of the closure but was told there was a marker, luckily a local guy stopped me right after the closure. Just a heads up.

 

That's what I thought.
They always close good trails that im close to. Any one ever done the bear to silver lake trail off hwy 88?

 

We are coming up from the south we will never make it to that mark we stop at the first water corssing.

 

Yeah i know, figured you guys are familiar with the trail, just giving a heads up that there are markers down, especially side trails. i don'tknow from the south but the trail from the north is closed before the water crossing, about 100 yrds.

 

Yeah the trail is closed at the water crossing we don't run it from the north. We run it backwards it's a good day of wheeling it's all easy once you cross the water anyway. And that water freaks me the fuck out anyway so I prefer not to cross it

 

MJ - Got your message regarding food, thanks for checking. If I come up (still kind of tentative at this point) it'll be Saturday morning and I'll bounce after we finish the trail ride. I'll know later this week if I'm rolling up and let ya'll know.

 

Considering that were meeting at 6pm, everyone should take bad traffic into account so we can leave Stockton on time please. I'll be leaving sac plenty early.

Yeah I'm going to try and leave early as possible HW-4 is going to suck at 4:00pm on Friday.

 

Fire restrictions are in affect "At least i think they still are" so if the site has a fire pit we can but can't just build a pit. I'll be stopping and picking up a permit on the way up for the stove and BBQ I'll talk to the rangers and see if that site is good for fires with restrictions in place.

 

There are fire rings at the campsite so we're ok with fires. I have a fire permit and anyone that wants one can get one here:

Crossing fingers that forest fires don't ruin our trip either, been quite a few in the area lately. Sac is still hazy with smoke

 

I plan on coming hwy 12 to 99, I hope it isn't all that crazy

 

Yeah, I'd check on fire status near DV and the use of campfires the day (or two days) before you guys roll.

 

Being that I'm 90% sure I'm coming, what time are you guys leaving sac to get down to stockton? I'll be at my Davis office on friday and trying to figure out what time I need to take off from there to make it back to sac/get ready to drive.
