... and now I just noticed one of the CVs is leaking, so it's going to be a trip to Auburn. I have a fully assembled from-Toyota spare, but can't get shops down here to swap things due to liability BS.
    Talk about a full week.

Shoreline is a pretty good center location for just about everything, but it really depends on where you're working

Both of which are expensive cities. Maybe up north around Lake Stevens? Snohonish? Come down south around the Auburn Kent area. A bunch of new houses being built around here in the 220-320k range for a decent house.

What shift are you gonna be working? or when will you be commuting to work, and home?

I used to commute downtown so I know what time of the day traffic will be slow as molasses and when it'll fly into town

Bellevue would be starting me out around 73k a year.

Seattle a little less but ability to make 88k in a matter of years.

Yes they are slightly expensive, but approximately the same as the metro area here in the Denver area.

Nothing is certain, but applications are in.

Okay well I don't know what shift you're working but FROM SHORELINE going southbound traffic gets progressively worse starting at 1200-1300 and is the worst at 1500-1600 but that being said even at it's worst it still only took me 45 minutes to commute into the heart of downtown (near the First Hill SPD precinct). Traffic commuting from downtown northbound is bad from 1600-1800.

Your best bet (since I'm assuming you still live in CO) is visit this page around the time of your shift - it will show you when traffic is going fast (green) or when it's not so good (yellow) and then stop & go (red) and absolute shit (black):
    http://www.wsdot.com/traffic/seattle/

When you check and see the current traffic, then just go to Google and type in (for example) "Edmonds to Seattle WA" if you are thinking of living in Edmonds and commuting to SPD in Seattle. That will give you the estimated with current traffic time it will take to get to work.

    Hope that helps!

Seattle PD has some funky shifts, they are 9 hours a piece.

    0300-1200
    1100-2000
    1900-0400

Getting the CV work done at Auburn Car Repair & Offroad on Thurs. morning.

I'd try to get it done down here since it's straightforward, but
-Oly Toyota is full of idiots/assholes
-Firestone won't install any parts you don't buy from them (come on, it's a Toyota factory part, complete end-to-end)
-LeMan's gets bitchy all the time unless he knows he's getting some high profit out of me each time I show up.

John at ACRO is the only guy I've found that I can trust, does a great job, has a good price, and is genuinely as enthusiastic about rigs as we are - even moreso! It's a long drive but he's peace of mind.

Also did research and I could probably do the swap myself, but I'm running ragged this week and I don't want surprises on my first time swapping.

You may have a difficult time finding a house in Bellevue for that price.

I would take a look at the Snoqualmie or Juanita/Kirkland areas if you end up in Bellevue.

That would be Mercer Island. If our lifted/moded out Tacos invaded there then we would really be head turners :D

Are you just swapping out axles or repairing boots? How much are you being charged?

    Just a quick swap.
About a year or two ago my driver side boot split, and i picked up a full axle with a full Toyota kit for replacing boots & grease. John swapped the axles. He inspected the old one and it was fine except for the boot. I do remember he charged me about $20 to install the replacement kit on the old axle. In fact, that's the axle I will have him put on this week.
I don't have the price off the top of my head but his labor rate is lower than typical.

EDIT: I should mention that the problem axle is merely leaking grease around the motor side boot where a metal band clamps the boot to the axle. It might be just that I need a few squirts of grease and a tightened clamp.
