Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.

thank you and i completely agree. the red was a try and see deal, i ran out of black and had 6 cans of red.

i put 6 more cans of the black on the bumper and front of the cab so its no longer too thin, and i got a roll of flat black vynal wrap (as i discussed with some memeber) im going to apply over the rockers so theres nothing to chip and i will update that here as well

THAT part i did not see lol. Welcome and thanks for giving me your "first"

Yea i am pretty new to actually being involved in posting, i have had accounts on pirate and ih8 mud and a few others in the past but never actively been on it. The other day after years of reading forums looking for answers and other viewpoints i decided to become an active memeber so here i am.

I would have been on some of the other toyota forums and offroad forums and backdated some builds etc but i lost 95% of my pictures a few months back so most of its only in my brain.

    interesting read.

I might derp the roof on my car..the clear is burning off and I figure that should give me time to find a good shop to re-paint the 15yr-old OEM paint and prevent further damage :D

With so much of the color change, from white to black, wouldn't you of had to call up your insurance/ownership/registration people about that? I knoe if I had my plate ran and the color was different from what was registered, id be pulled over for some questioning lol

That is a grey area, since its not "permanant" then its not much different to me either way (tell them its black, peel it off now its white)

as far as getting pulled over, theres not really anything they could do about it in most places except verify your information and tell you to have a nice day. Unless you have a problem with your information or your ride is actualy stolen then its not something i would worry about.

But the biggest thing is im tired of dealing with my insurance company and personaly i avoid talking to them at all cost. alll they want to do is put me on hold, transfer me, waist my time and energy, tell me im a valuable customer and assure me everything will be worked out and that they are "sorry" and of course to answer a few questions on thier survey...

during a recent google search on derp colors i found your truck in a few places on the internet

the picture on dipyourcar.com is a good picture of the color i would have thought it was more green from the two pics here..

    either way awesome truck.

i was looking at going towards the toyota theme truck from sema a few years back.

OP your first post mentioned using plastidip for tool handles. I was just thinking your truck looks like you grabbed ahold of the roof and dipped it in a swimming pool of the stuff.
    Heh.

Wow, this is awesome! Major props to you for doing this to your truck- it definitely took balls to do this. I think it not only looks good, but serves a function other than cosmetics- an extra layer of "protection" from scratches and whatnot, and you were pretty smart to leave the upper part white for heat issues.

I like it! Good job! I don't know why so many people voted against? Either way, if they were to do it and didn't like it, you can remove it. That's the best part about plasti dip! I'm gonna do retro stripes in plasti dip, eventually. Plus it doesn't cause any damage. If your a person that likes to change the look of a vehicle often, then plasti dip is your best friend! I use it quite often to make small changes on my truck.

    Thank Yoiu!

Its funny you mention the retro stripes, i LOVE the way they look on the 1 gen taco's and i was trying to come up with some on my 13 when i decided to coat the whole thing.. its hard to mask clean edges with the stuff and trimming with a razor blade like i did was a lot of work. I thought of another way im going to try soon...

I got the NATO patterns and directions for 3 or 4 color camo on CUCV now printed out and a few ideas of my own to modify the scheme for the tacoma. I am also getting a electric HVLP gun for painting in my house etc so next time im going to try the by the gallon dip instead of the rattle can.

What will be really intersting is when you go to peel it off and see what it looks like after doing that. Especially if its been on there a long time, like a year or more. :D

    Thanks!

I think the most common question i get driving it around is why i left the roof white. This is my first light colored vehicle i have owned and drove in the summer and i was so happy with the temperature difference i could not give that up.

For the winter im planning on redoing the whole truck in a NATO camo pattern. I just want to give it a shot, if it doesnt turn out i can always go back to a solid color easily.

of course i will be posting whatever i do on here :)

Out of curiosity, does PD offer UV protection? I wonder if you run dip for a year or 3 and remove it, if your OEM paint will now be mismatched due to UV damage and aging paint compared to fresh paint that was dipped.

i peeled the front fenders off and redid them last week and it went great. the only think i am worried about in the future is the factory TRD stickers on the bed possibly coming up with the Dip.. I deffinately like it more than vynal. it doesnt seem to bond over time (5 months or so so far) like stickers etc.
