Getting Older

I`m only 40 but I been wondering, If I have a " Mid Life Crisis " how will I know? What are the symptoms? Does it go away?

 

I had a friend who went through this, and he saw his life changing but did not associate this to "mid life crisis". Usually someone has to tell you, " Hey ! what the Hell are you thinking ? " like I did to my friend. A fight ensued, and when he looked around and saw who was standing with him and not opposed to him he shook it off. Now all is good, and he is right where he should be. If you feel that you might be "changing" or the path you're on is now kind of fast or bumpy, surround your self with good, courageous friends. They will say something or even step in when they know it could get ugly, and will stay with you until it's settled.

 

Thanks for the advice. I was just wondering lately, as life does seem to be getting faster n faster. I had kids later in life, they seem to be growing quickly, and costing more to take care of (not a big deal).Work is gonna be a challenge for me too coming up in a couple weeks also (stress).Just thought I`d ask cause there are a lot of cool people here. I didn't buy a flashy red sports car. I bought a flashy red truck with a sporty feel. Does that count as a mid-life crisis?

 

I'm not sure that the faster, faster part of your symptoms are related to a mid-life crisis. The older I get it seems like time flies faster and faster. I agree with Jedi. I believe you will seldom recognize a mid-life crisis yourself. Someone will let you know. My wife says I had one around 45 (now 51) but I am still not convinced.

 

Time does just keep flying by faster mid life crisis or not. I figured with the kids out of the house life would get slower and I would have more time, but it seems to be the opposite.

You guys are right on. I don't think you see it when you are in the middle of it. Looking back, I would agree with my wife and friends when they said mine was a 41 when I got a V-max because my other bike was too slow. After several near death experences I woke up and said what am I doing. Only took 2 years to figure it out. That was just one symptom.

Now at 48 is a Black Taco and Mid Life Crisis or just a smart choice? I think the later and the wife and dog agree.

I'm 40 also..... and I call myself *old* because all these whipper snappers around here would call me old.

Actually, I couldn't be happier with life. Wonderful husband, financially secure, and no kids to prematurely age my soul (laugh). I have a flashy blue truck that keeps me *spirited* everytime I drive it.

But seriously - don't worry about all that stuff. Just * Go with life * as it happens and enjoy it. If you go through a midlife crisis....hell, LET IT HAPPEN!! Anything to make you feel younger and rejuvenated with life.... Welcome it!!!

Hell....we bought a Corvette last year. My husband is 2 years younger than me!!!

 

Thanks for the replies. I did a little research on the net, and I definately fit some of the criteria. I feel its not that big of deal, just a regular kind of stage in life (highs and lows sorta).I think what I need is for the season of Spring to get here with some nice weather.Also by the end of May this hideous demand from work will be over, and I can get some vacation in.You all are great thanks again.

 

It's definately the weather.... Spring hasn't really *sprung* yet (not here anyway). It's been nice here-&-there but it always gets back down the 30's again. I'll be much happier (and peppier) when the temps get up into 50's or higher and stay there. Yeah, work sucks for me also. Shift rotation and weekend work gets OLD - but not much I can do about it. The money is too good.

I'm tired of hybernating....and gotta get out -but this damn coldness keeps my indoors. I hate cold weather!

Spring & summer always make me feel better / younger.

Ya know what? Research some new hobbies.....something you can get a 'new interest' in. My husband and I started bowling again after 12 years. We've started shooting trap/skeet, and I'd like to get back into fishing again.

Relax my friend! ! ! 40 is the beginning of the rest of your life 40 was devastating for me! !! I realized that my life was half over and that was a scarry thing at 40 and I started dying at that point. But here I am 32 years later and still going Oh yes, I had Corvett's, SS396's and such and it helped so if you can swing it go ahead and do it, you only go around once

Thanks, I`ll keep that in mind. I started this thread almost being comical, but was shocked to see how much of the signs fit, after researching it a bit.

 

I am doing some looking at myself since you brought it up, I have a couple I need to keep an eye on.

 

Hey Gang....I'm knocking on 40 this year.I'd like in on the old fogie club too.

It seems that I'm noticing some changes as well...vision going a little,greying at my temples big time and a few more aches and pains.I had an episode a couple of months ago that kinda scared me too....We had a particularily nasty house fire and my crew and I ended up on the third floor of this house,directly over the fire...It was very hot and I was doing alot of chopping trying to get the wall open.When it was time to go get our bottles changed,I became very dizzy and my Officer said I was clawing at my coat saying I was hot....As the night wore on,I was completely useless,and suffered for about two days later.As it turns out,I was probably suffering from heat stroke and my blood pressure was through the roof.

I stay fairly active and being able to rip and tear is a matter of pride on my job....After talking it over with some of the older guys at work,they cited examples of times that they realized they weren't 20 anymore.This dosen't mean I'm going to be handing over all the work to one of the pups,but it was a tap on the shoulder that said "You don't have to do it all".

The way I see it is you can't fight time so we may as well embrace it for what it is.....Great words of wisdom previously posted,thanks!
