    oh yeah..ive been looking at skiffs for about a year now after i got heavy into sight fishing reds here.

    ive looked at em all probably.. IPB, ankona, skull island, east cape, HB, beavertail, bossman. you name it ive probably been to their website ahah.

    this skiff is just such a great deal. has less than 40 hours on boat and motor. tons of custom upgrades, and the dude is offering a hell of a deal. my pops is even on board to help front the money and get me on a payment plan with im so I can avoid interest (and it would be impossible for me to get a loan right now)

    best part is I feel like im a perfect time to buy... i have no living expenses right now, and by the time i move out on my own..the boat will be fully paid.

    It's the people that don't know what they are talking about that get things all bent out of shape. I was conversing in that thread and on fb with the guy that bought it. I try to give my input based on what I know, but like I told the guy in fb, he is the only one that can truly tell if its pressed right or not and that if he can't tell for himself then he needs to get a second opinion in person.

    I agree, I haven't seen a good TW blow up in a while. I thought it was going to lead to that, but I like to think that I may have helped defuse that situation.

    I was a bit surprised at how cobby the peen looked, considering there were a pair of machined detents in the hub he could have set with a rounded drift instead of a chisel or screwdriver.

    Looking at the pin spanner holes though, they almost appear as if the nut was reused, maybe the peening is on the original location.

    Myself, I am still at a loss as to why both bearings are a press fit. It would seem the torque of the nut is moot in setting bearing preload. You would think that a better method would be similar to a pinion shaft in a rear end. Press the first bearing until seated, then the second bearing is a slip fit on the shaft, but crushes a sleeve to keep the second bearing from spinning on the shaft. Seems if one shops presses the bearing with 2 tons, another with 6 tons and another with 12 tons, each would obtain a different preload. I suppose if the manual calls for an exact pounds of press force on a calibrated press it could work but seems unlikely.

    BTW the Avid bar was a quick install, thanks.

    if i am remembering what jason told me correctly, from when i did my own hub a couple of months ago, most of the time toyota dealerships just replace the whole unit with a pre-assembled unit from toyota, which would eliminate the variance in preload on the bearings from shop to shop.

    No, we get all the pieces and press everything in the shop. I had said that we typically recommend a new hub just out of precaution. But I have reused the original hubs on a number of units without issue.

    ahhh, i see. i had misunderstood.

    do you typically check tolerances of the hub to determine reuseability (is that even a word?), or is it just by visual inspection?
