Okay this mechanical talk is above my knowledge level but can someone explain bearing preload?

I have a brand new interstate mt-24 battery for sale. Bought it for my ex, never put it in. Still has the plastic around it. $50 if anyone wants it.

in general terms, it's the amount of force on the bearings when a component is fully assembled and in a static state, with no outside forces on it.

so in this case, picture the hub flange with the bearings pressed on, and the CV nut torqued to spec, but with no tire mounted, and the truck in the air. the bearings are under a load at that point, which is why they don't spin freely by hand.

too much preload, and you can dent the bearing race, and prematurely wear the bearings/race. too little preload and you will either have, or quickly develop play in the hub. either scenario means broken or worn parts which create excessive heat and a bad hub.

I'm lazy and the truck is dirty?

I'll see what I can do photo wise.

As I mentioned when I picked up the Avid bar, I have a bunch of parts awaiting install, just need time to accomplish it.
Tranny cooler, convert oem cooler to PS cooler, Camburg upper arms, Magnaflow muffler, DTST headers and weld on cats, Torsen diff to build onto the third I picked up from TAC1 and install that, balance my newly mounted BFG Mud Terrains and install them. Need to pull my ICONs and send them back for new shafts, may just let it sit rather swap shocks on all four corners and then do it again a couple weeks later, plus I still need to finish the BAMF slider instll by drilling the rest of the frame bolts.

I was able to find a set of tires a couple weeks ago. Mounted those the old fashioned way Sunday morning. Tire irons and a bucket. So I have my Mud Terrains mounted on the oem TRD sport 17" wheels, just need to balance them. I went by the tire shop suppliers outlet here in WPB to get the proper clip on balance weights. I figured they stocked the smaller all sizes weight kit, but unfortunately they don't. The guy was assuming I would buy boxes of 25 weights per box in all the sizes for the FN style weights. Wrong, it is nice to have a balancer at home, but spending a ton of money and having enough weights to balance 50 trucks seems wasteful.

Between the day job teaching, fixing airplanes on the side, honey do stuff, maintaining the yard, helping the son in law sell his late fathers pro street 454 Chevy truck and motorcycle, spend time with grandkids and visit with my mom that's on chemo, seems the Tacoma always has little time to be or get finished. One day soon though.

    Holiday weekend coming though...

It is true then that the inner bearing, next to the nut, is a press fit also? This just seems wrong for a double tapered bearing design component.

I just can't recall this type of bearing installation on any other applications except front wheels.

It may come to this, problem is though, I don't know if the local shops use the proper weights.

My current selection has lead weights for steel rims on American cars. The Toyotas with alloys require a common but different wheel weight specific to the lip of the rim.

The color code is orange, the lip profile is different shaped than other rim types. The proper weights fit pretty well onto the wheel.

Have a look at your weights, look for the letters FN, that is the flange style or weight style that corresponds to orange.

I didn't mean only bada. Just the only ones I knew for a fact and they were orange. Should have clarified.

Jason, or anyone, my air/fuel ratio seems to be acting up. cruising and idle seems about right, fluctuating from 13-16, but even under WOT, it will not drop below 12.8. it also won't go above 18.12, but i just figured that was the normal upper limit. either way, is that screaming bad MAF sensor? i gave it a good clean, but it didn't really seem to change anything.

I will look up some info on it sometime today at work. Definitely seems something is weird with those numbers, just can't put my finger on it. I will get back to you.

Figured I would post a pic for those of you who know my son. Little man started kindergarten this morning. Had to brag a bit.

    I miss kindergarten :(

gone are the days where you do math with candy and then get to have a tasty treat when you're right or give the M&Ms to your neighbor when you're wrong.

now i get fired when my math is wrong and no candy when it's right :(

hope he has a great day!
