For my edification, I may have missed it while I was reading through the thread, what is the diameter of the bars he (Brandon) is using? They look like 2" bars.

1 3/4" on the big bars, 1 1/4" on the smaller tubes. Pretty much the same size everybody else is using on the bumpers/bars.

    Thanks for the info kevhogaz.

I love the way these bars look and intend to order a set. I'm specifically interested in opinions of how these bars would withstand a 30-40 mph deer strike. I live in the North East along the NW Jersey border, so I see deer all the time. Just never seems to be in the spots I hunt. Because I run the deer gauntlet (I-78 to I-287) I would like to get something that would stand up "reasonably well" to a deer or like animal.

My question is...what properties give bull/push bars their strength? Is it the diameter of the bars or the design, quality of welds, and/or mounting method? Logically I would assume a combination of all the above. I just can't get past the idea that like most things..."bigger is better".

BTW, I'm thinking in analogous terms of firearm caliber and tire size here folks. ;)

Micke, I lived in NorCal for a while, and I know what it's like to nail a deer, with your car. It sucks, to say the least.

I think this bar would protect somewhat against a deer strike, but it would depend on how tall your truck is, the deers height, and if he tried to jump. I don't doubt the bar would withstand the impact, with little or no damage, but that would also depend a lot on your velocity. Look at the pics of the green '01 Taco a couple of pages back. That bumper would take out a deer, and just run him under the truck. It's a full bumper though, not just a light bar. I think with an '05 and newer truck, with just a light bar, you'd still sustain some damage to the grille, and head lights, possibly even the hood.

I don't doubt the strength of the tubing, we were thinking of lifting a truck off the ground, using the front bumper with one of our hoists at work, and taking pics to show the strength, and how much Brandon stands behind his welds. To go with a bigger size tubing, requires a new set of dies for the bender, which aren't cheap. The industry standard seemed the way to go.

micke...i live in jorthwest jersey like 27 miles from pa border near delaware water gap...deer are a major issue to me as well, so that would be a plus if it can stop most of the damage they can do. wear abouts are you?

kev...it would be nice to see the truck lifted from the bar as well...as long as its not a david blaine magic trick...:D:eek::confused:

We were gonna lift my truck the other day, but we didn't think we had a strong enough chain at the shop to do it. I do like a challenge though, so watch for it in the near future.

How much does the bar weigh? Trying to figure how much it will cost to ship to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Thanks

kevhogaz: All great points. Thanks for your insight and opinions. I guess the whole "will it stop a deer strike" issue is mute. Looking at Westins and other typical bullbars, they don't cover nearly as much realestate as Brandon's arctic bar, and they don't go up any higher (over grille). My main consideration is a deer hoof/antler through the radiator and leaving me stranded. But, if you get ANY bar other than an ARB or the like, you are faced with that possibility anway. So...might as well get something just as strong with more coverage and is (IMHO) one of the best blends between functional and astetics. This is the bar I'm going to get.

DdayIsNear: Glad to hear someone else feels my pain (fear) when driving around our area. I'm in Allentown, so I'm not too far from you. My boss (fiance') is from Nutley, NJ. We are also in Lincoln Park quite a bit. So, we run the I-78 to I-287 route all the time. She's got family up in your neck of the woods, so we occationally run I-80 to the DWG, or up 611 (from PA). Deer everywhere but where my tree stands are. I'm gonna switch up my tactics and hunt with/in an old Cutlass Supreme along the side of the road. :p

BTW, Brandon seems like a great guy to deal with. Straight forward, gives you the facts, and doesn't make you go back and forth a bunch of times via e-mail. Seems pretty darn efficient to me. :)

I amd DEF interested in picking up one of these, it will be years before i do some SERIOUS offroading so i dont need a bumper replacement. this is bad ass looking and price is def right. and if it could only get a little less expensive with a group buy...Its like winning the lottery, ok maybe a scratch off but ya get the point. You guys def seem like honest people to deal with. I mean, you are giving people your address to the garage to pick itup in person. Thats all good in my book (unless its a big ploy to scam us and its all a set up...hahahahaha:eek:)

Micke..if your ever inthe area let me know or check the thread NJ Taco's..we are planning a meet pretty close to nutley..wayne actually.

    Good Times All!!!

Two bars left. I talked to Brandon on Friday, and he says there is two left. If you want one, you better email him, or call him. There's not gonna be anymore for at least a week, or longer.

The first two buyers should have there's by now, so look for pics any day now, and re-assurance that this is not a scam.

DdayIsNear: Thanks for the invite man. I know exactly where Wayne is. I'll be sure to check the NJ thread to see what meetings I might be able to make. Would be great if they coincided with the obligatory visits to the in-laws! :D
