    thats the lift that I bought, it came with front spacers, the strut extenstions I believe they are called, and the rear 2" lift block blocks, U bolts and rear shock absorbers

    Thanks. David texted me the same about the flat black. Lowes didn't have what I wanted so I will stop by auto zone after I pick up Kyle and see if they have anything better.

    so with an extension like that, your shock isn't actually extended any further at ride height than in stock form. a preload spacer would extend the shock. in your case, you have increased the pressure on the spring.

    in stock form, the shock is what limits how far the suspension can drop. when you ad a spacer like that, you extend how far the suspension can drop, causing the shock to no longer be your limiting factor.

    lift your front end up off of the ground. if you still have the swaybar on, make sure to lift both front tires off of the ground. you'll have one of two things happening. 1) your upper controll arm will be hitting the coil spring. or 2) your upper control arm ball joint will be maxed out. either would make a clunking sound, but the arm hitting the spring would probably be louder.

    if the arm hits the spring, it's visually obvious that that's your issue. if it doesn't, the way to check if the upper ball joint is maxed out, is to unbolt the balljoint, separate it from the spindle, and see of the spring presses the spindle down further than the upper arm can reach.

    while possible, it's highly unlikely that it's a bad bushing (unless you have the old style SPC bushings in the aftermarket Light racing arms)

    Great explanation, Colin. :thumbsup: Oh, and FWIW, I'd say go with an oil press gage. IMHO, it's probably the most important gage you can add if you don't have an OEM one.

    thanks. that's what i was thinking with the oil pressure. current thought process is that it's more likely for my tranny temps to be too high evey now or then, but the concequinces are typically just a need for a premature fluid change. on the other hand, while it is far less likely to have an issue with oil pressure, if that goes bad, concequinces are catastrophic.

    hmmm, ya im not really too sure if i have the old style bushings or not, but if I can I can upload some pictures of everything behind the wheel and see if you can tell anything by looking, but im at work right now, so Im not able to do that, but I can once I get off at 4. But Ill have to see if I can check out what youre suggesting there once I get off, I really want to get rid of that sound, it sounds so bad, kinda wish at this point I wish I knew more about fixing vehicles lol

    Ha! You should! It took me forever to get all the glue off the lenses from the clear bra stuff you put on. But I got them looking like brand new when i was done with them.

    Exactly. In fact, that's going to be my next project after I get the lift, wheels, and tires completed. I have an Autometer mechanical oil pressure gage I'm going to install. I just need to figure out what fittings I need so I can still use the OEM pressure sensor and don't end up with an idiot light on the dash glaring at me constantly.

    My owner's manual shows a picture of a cluster with full instrumentation (speedo, tach, temp, oil press, volts, and fuel), so I'm guessing it was an option in '98s. Unfortunately, my truck is a few steps down from "barely adaquate" instrumentation. I don't even have a trip odo.

    When I do the oil press gage, I'm also going to install my way-over-kill Monster Tach (10,000 RPM) as well. It's going to be ridiculous for a stock engine, but since I've had it for years, might as well use it rather than letting it collect dust on a shelf.

    BTW, if you look closely at the pic of the '83 in my build thread, you can see said tach on the dash, so I guess the Taco is by no means the most ridiculous application this tach has seen.
