If it overheated could it have blown a freeze plug too and lost all the fluid? Do they have freeze plugs on them?

I actually have a jeep now. Imagine that.
yeah, but usually they rust out. Not a bit of rust on this thing. Hell, a cracked radiator could have caused all this too. Guess I'll know here in a bit.

Bill do you seriously use a press from Harbor Freight?

Because I was thinking about getting one and was curious if they were worth it. :)

That is why I absolutely love having a Aussie locker in the front and manual hubs! Can't beat it!

Yes, I do. when it comes to a press you really are simply dealing with heavy gauge steel (Which is pretty much equal all the way around) and then a hydraulic jack. The one I have is a 20 ton unit and has given me no issues at all since I bought it. I originally had a 12 ton, but thanks to Matt bringing his brother's truck down to get new bearings pressed in, it was ruined :D:D, so I bought the 20 ton unit. I would suggest getting the 20 ton if you plan on doing anything serious though. The 12 ton is just not strong enough, and the center arbour is too long and thin.

This is the one I have now, bolted to the floor:

Must be a week as control arm. Stock? cause mine are at least 1/4 thick. And do the landcruisers have crappy ps.

everyone i know loves that press.

I just figured PS is stronger on newer trucks. They're not known to be weak, no.

As for the control arm, general consensus is that nobody knows how the F he bent it. It's an I profile arm, that looks to be hard as hell to deform, but this is it:

Rompin was in the truck with Nick when it happened. Maybe he can elaborate on how hard a hit it was. <shrug>

Also, that's a sideways bend, it mounts to the truck such that the bend would be passenger to driver not up and down. I think he came off sideways and put the whole weight of the truck into it coming at a really steep roll angle. That's monday morning quarterbacking though, just from looking at the pic and knowing where that is on the truck.

I just figured with being a heavier vehicle, you'd have stronger PS. Most people with wranglers/cherokees swap out for a durango/dakota PS. Same pump but twice as powerful. Mine definitely goes where it wants to. But I also don't have the gearing to go slow in the rocks so I just bounce straight.

And yeah, I think that was a one in a million plop sideways onto a rock....with some momentum.

Maybe so on the PS... come to think of it... I should probably check the fluid before I head out. I know i've got a really slow leak on the clutch slave cyl and topping it off from time to time makes a big difference. Not that they're related at all... just made me think about it.

I'm not geared very low either (4:11's plus a granny-ish first), and I can't cheat by having the torque converter unlocked faking a little lower gearing. Of course, I can slip clutch, but that doesn't end well after a while. We'll see how it goes. First time wheeling a manual, first time wheeling this truck, first time wheeling anything this large. I just want to stay shiny side up and (mostly) in one piece. I got spare axle shafts and another control arm though, just in case ;)

Yeah, they are well worth the effort. I installed Dave's ARB in his truck and he loves it.

Manual transmissions are a definite challenge to wheel in hilly areas and rocks.

okay, 1.25" spidertrax wheel spacers, do they need to be hub centric still?

Ugh, wheel spacers.....lol. To be honest if you got the proper backspacing on the wheels you won't need wheel spacers. I think 4.5 inches was the right size for most 33 inch tires I believe.

As Bill said. Get 4.5" backspacing wheels. 17x9 is what I had on my 07 Taco, and they were perfect!

Get the proper backspacing, forget that wheel spacers were ever made.

Yup. 4.5 is what you want. Do that. Don't do spacers. There are TRD FJ Trail Team wheels somewhere on here for $150 + shipping. Factory hub centric fit, and 4.5" backspacing. That's your huckleberry.

Thanks Dave, I was thinking that the 4.5 was the right number. So have you finally obtained your brother's truck yet?
