Thanks for the TSB and all of the previous people following through with complaints to get the TSB issued. My '09 has the same issue. I plan on taking the TSB in and the truck soon for a fix..

btw ~ the noise goes away at very high volume. 25+ :D

Just got back from the dealer today. Service advisor had a new amp ordered last week and I took it in today for the swap. They couldn't do it because the amp has to come from JBL as an exchange because they have been refurbished (fixed). That and the fact that Toyota doesn't want a $1000.00 charge that JBL is responsible for. The advisor told me they could not recreate the popping sound but they went ahead and ordered the exchange amp from JBL anyway. Funny thing though. When I was about to pull out of Big Two Toyota here in Gilbert, it started popping. I did a u turn and drove right up to the service department where my advisor was. He came right out and he and others heard for themselves firsthand. Now the this dealership knows and can help anyone in the east valley here in the Phoenix metro area.

I saw that the TSB said only for 09s, yet as stated before, I was having this issue with my 08 (never had the chance to take it in---long story/personal reasons).

Any of you think this will be an issue still?

    Here is the TSB http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...tml#post609486

:help: Can someone explain how the VIN number works, my VIN falls before the number on the third line of the TSB the line reads "3TMJU62N#9M082249"
Mine is the same 3TMJU62NX9MXXXXX, mine has an X rather than the number/pound sign and my number "XXXXX" is lower than "082249" as shown on the TSB. I used X's rather than post my actual VIN number. :notsure:

finally a TSB for this problem that dealer wouldn't admit to when I first purchased truck. So its the amp that has the problem. I thought it was the sub. Is there anyway that we can call JBL and exchange the amp instead of bringing it in to the dealer?

OK. Just thought I would update. I finally had the chance to take it in yesterday. I first talked to a non-technician in the service dept. and explained the "blowing in the mic/wind" sound I was hearing, how it would trail off after a bass line and not have that "clean bass line" sound (sorry for not describing it any better). Told him it wasn't happening on every song but that it was there. I would pinpoint where in the song it was happening and he wouldn't say anything. I gave him a part number that someone else posted in this thread. He went inside to find more info on it. Came back a few minutes later and said that he'd have to look for a TSB. I said I happened to have one with me that I printed. Although it didn't specify 2008 DC Tacomas under the applicable year, the batch of VINs apparently included mine.

He then had a technician come listen to it to see if he could hear what I was hearing. I explained the same thing to him and within a few examples, he said "oh yeah, I hear it." I said that it was really annoying to hear this and that with the type of music I listen to (more bass heavy music), I hear it quite a bit. He said for us to go inside and he would tell the service managers to go ahead and order the replacement amp that was listed on the TSB.

Needless to say, I'm very pleased that the amp was ordered yesterday. I'm hoping its here and replaced by the 3rd week of July. I'd love to have my system ready for my drive down to SD for Comic-Con.

Thanks again everyone for helping everyone else out on this site. Without the TSB and names and locations of other managers helping out us customers with there problems, I don't think it would have been so easy to get mine fixed.

I took my 2009 in on June 4th with the TSB in hand to Big Two Toyota (same dealership). I just said that I thought the audio from the rear speakers and subwoofer sounded like crap when using the AUX input. They didn't even ask me to re-create it, they just ordered the Amp no questions asked.

I think it's funny how it can depend on which service advisor you get.

Well, took my truck in yesterday for the amp exchange at Big Two Toyota. Everything went great, it has a bit more volume now. Anyone in Arizona if you have a problem, contact Alex at Big Two oyota. He is a service advisor. Also I had a vibration issue at 65 to 70 They said the factory alignment was off .36 I am going to make another post on this subject right now.

So after many trips to the dealer, they finally replaced the new amp. I think a TSB may have been released while I was going through the headache. The stereo sounds amazing.....Just lifted the truck with the toytec ultimate and light racing UCA....I will post pics soon....it looks INSANE!!!!!

I've had all the same issues as everyone here with the sound. The dealership reluctantly replace the stereo last week.

The sound issue came back today (five days into a new stereo). The service rep said there is currently no fix & I'm supposed to wait for an update.

I need to read this entire thread. I'm not understanding if this is a stereo or amp or speaker issue. I want to be informed when I deal with these service rep. scoundrels. They are more worried about their service survey rating then my stereo.

Waiting for an update from them for an undefined period of time while I drive around with crappy sound in a new truck IS NOT AN OPTION.

The problem is the amp from JBL. JBL has what is called an amp exchange program and there is currently a Technical service bulletin out on this problem. Mine was finally fixed here in Chandler AZ at Big Two Toyota. You might refer your service advisor to ALEX Carillo who is a service advisor at Big Two. Hope this helps.

After about a week of phone calls back and forth with toyota of bellevue here in washington they have ordered my new amp and its scheduled to be installed this coming tuesday. I printed out the TSB and brought it in with me for my first appointment to have them try to recreate the distortion I was complaining about hearing. They said that they could hear it as well but then the service guy was trying to tell me that my VIN # wasn't the same as the one on the TSB. Finally he said that they would try and work with me after I provided a few choice words ha and since the amp # in my truck was the same as the one provided in the TSB. My trucks an 09 by the way. Anyone in the area looking to have this done to their tacoma call Jeff there at the service department and he should be able to help you out as well. Sometimes you just gotta give em a little extra encouragement to get what you want...ha

Thank you so much for the TSB. Called to make an appointment before searching and the service department guy say the same thing happens in his truck and there is nothing they can probably do about it. Well, he can take this TSB and shove it.

Sorry to sound like a newbie but I must ask the question of how can you tell if your truck is equipped with JBL equipment and is this the only "problem" unit? I have an 09' but I'm not sure if mine has JBL equipment or not. I haven't driven it that much yet.

Well isn't that some shit. I get the appointment to take it down to the dealer so they can "hear" that it need replaced, and what happens the CD player stops working. I keep getting an Error 3 and it is not ejecting cds or loading cds. WTF.

    HI,
I have a 2008 Tacoma as well with exactly the same problem. I actually took Toyota through the arbitration process, only to have them respond with "The stereo is operating as designed". Did you ever get your stereo replaced and did it solve the problem? Thanks!
