There is a color tempurature difference between the 2. I've not used gimp but I'm guessing there is a huge learning curve in getting to know how to best use it. It has lierally taken me years of working in PS to get to where I am comfortable with it. Not too many surprises with a given photograph any more.

edit: for instance if i wanted to make the 2nd one look like the 1st one, I would raise the color temp a little. say from 5500 kelvin to 6500. Might also move the tint slider in the magenta direction. this would happen in 'bridge', the raw converter.

 

Too much green hue and saturation IMO. See how the rocks look even green?

Find a middle between the jpeg and raw. The red/orange and blacks in the mpg are better as are the aqua and blues.

Greens are better in the raw.

Either way I like e jpeg more still. Mountains are more natural as is the clouds.

On my monitor the jpg has too much magenta and the raw is a little too cool. I would prefer the green/blue over the magenta cast tho.

It must be noted tho that I do not use this ultabook for photo editing for a reason. The color is not all that accurate on this.

 

I'm on my iPad which looking between this and my Mac is damn near the same with my pics.

Ill look again on my monitor after this.

no, not green, yellow.

Ben, Can you reduce the intensity of individual colors? If you reduce the yellow channel, the green will not be so overpowering.

yea...still like the jpeg too.

the RAWs look too...cooked..like you can REALLY tell they where messed with..not a sharp or crisp.
