I call it "Redneckin' it in". It's one of those choices like putting the roll of toilet paper on the holder. But statistically, backing in is more dangerous for pedestrians and thus sometimes forbidden in employee lots or government lots.

Are you sure about that? Our company does a lot of utility, gov, dot, etc work. Our rule is check out the space, then back in. We are required to with most utilities and gov lots. We have a branch near DC and we have to sign off on it in some contracts. Makes it hard to unload sometimes.

back in. because if something crazy happens i can just drive off instead of wasting time backing out then going forward. or if something happens and someone blocks you in you can ram them out of your way. (too many movies/crazy life)

Both. It depends on the spot for me. Pull through if possible since I usually park all by my lonesome, smaller lots I'll back up to an embankment or planter, and nose in if I'm using the bed.

The truck driver rule is to always back in.
It is much safer to back in when u park, & u can just pull away when u leave.

I park based on the conditions and lot. For example, at my home I drive right in. Its way more work to back in compared to backing out the next morning.

Back in. Friend of mine was Army motor pool and told me that's simply how it was done. Can get everyone out of a parking lot a LOT faster. Made sense, been doing it ever since.

I've heard a west coast comedian say it's blue collar people that back in spots

I've heard texas and midwest people say it's rich people that back in.

I just know that at my company's plant, people are supposed to back in to their parking spot in case there's an emergency situation we can all just take off.

Gonna have to disagree. MUCH safer to back in and pull out. You are not backing blind - you have just scoped out the spot, so you know there's no one in the way.

Backing out of a spot, you cannot see what's coming, people and/or vehicles.

Pulling out, you have much better visibility - only have to have a little bit of your car out (if parked between bigger vehicles), compared to most of it when backing.

Plus much quicker to get away if needed.

Not really sure why everyone has the need to "get out fast" but that sure seems to be a dominant reason for backing in.

Accidents happen. You can't deny that. Backing into a parking space has shown to be more dangerous that backing out based on insurance statistics, I can't deny that. You can if you want :)

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Back in 90% of the time. I just like being able to pull out and be on my way. Always seemed like backing in was easier anyhow.

I'd like to see those statics you have mentioned twice now. I think you have it backwards. You said gov parking lots forbid backing in, that's not true. I can't find the stats you talk about, but the national parking engineers forum had the same debate, and one sited the National Safety Council recommendation to back in.

Ahah! Randy, I think I got the info that you were trying to site. (Older) Pedestrians are twice as likely to be injured when vehicles are backing in a parking LOT, not space. This would include out of a parking space, and I would strongly agree with that.

    Here are the links:

    http://www.safetyandhealthmagazine....red-in-back-up-parking-lot-collisions-study-2

    http://www.keithdpeterson.com/docs/proper-backing-techniques.pdf

    And for all of us:

    https://www.nsc.org/safety_road/DriverSafety/Documents/Backover Child Injuries - English.pdf

& as much as I love to be right, if you can come up with those stats, Ill concede, and send you a pic of my truck nose first.
