Problems with co workers

Alright so, to start with I'm and 18 year old male, who just graduated high school and I'm leaving for the Marine Corps in now January, in the now meantime I work at a chemical plant as a landscaping technician (not my dream job, but hey it's money). This isn't extremely pertinent, but I'm the only white worker. The rest are Mexican of origin. So lately, err, from the beginning I should say, I've been the center of attention, constantly picked on racist remarks etc... Most of the time playful, but often annoying and just harassing, I've asked them to quit, and it never ceases. I've had twice where they wanted to fight me, as of today it was because I didn't have any cash on me to pay for steaks that were already bought. I don't have any cash on me and I said I was gonna pay tommorow, well he kept talking shit, bowing up on me, saying "lets settle this". I just replied I'm not gonna fight you over something stupid. What do I do if this continues?
This is a repost but because I need replied quickly I moved it from jobs and careers to here.

 

Professional way of handling it, contact your HR and tell them what's going on. It's not something that should be tolerated...from any race or ethnic origin, and it should be dealt with accordingly. Something like that at my previous employer would result in immediate termination.

Yes. And, if he doesn't take it seriously, you need to let it be known you will fix the issue yourself if it isn't resolved.

I'd probably give em shit but ultimately you'll have to decide how that'll go. Sometimes you have to give people shit in return or they'll just keep picking on ya because they can. Then again they might just be a bunch of cocksuckers.

 

You are honestly kind of screwed. With small comps like this they just don't take labor laws serious. As for telling your boss, what’s his relationship with the guys screwing with you? Going to him might just make things worse.

It’s really just a shit job and as the minority you are basically screwed. These guys won't let up at all unless you are able to earn their respect and that just won't happen because they obviously have no understanding of respect.

Question: You know if they are here legally?

Best advice is try to find another job ASAP, dealing with this bullshit is just going to make life real hard on you.

 

Take him for a ride in your truck and drop him off at the immigration office....problem solved.

 

if your boss doesnt do something about it, id personally handle it myself. sometimes its just the way it has to go.

 

Find out if any of them are illegal, do some research on labor laws and your rights as an employee. Find out areas where the company is in violation of health or safety. Do your homework and get educated. Approach the owner of the comp and express your problem and your rights as an employee and perhaps bring up areas of concern with respect to violations. Demonstrate your understanding of your rights. You do this and those idiots will back off real quick. If you get fired then it will have done out of retaliation.

You can really make this as complex as you want, but I still say just find a new job.

 

I get it and have done just that, it really jacked me in the end. I broke a bone in my hand and the bitch got her teeth knocked out. I had to pay the dental bill, but she never picked on me again.

 

To start I'm 46 and never have any cash period. Second you say sorry I have no cash. End of story. Most hispanics don't use banks. Give them shit right back, dose'nt matter how.

 

i know exactly what your going through. im asian and idk about you but i know for a fact nobody gives a rats ass about ragging on asian people and so you have the following choices

1. joke back shwo them that it doesnt bother you
2. tell management and see if they do anything
3. if management doesn't step in then get racist right back
4. the next person to get in your face you whoop his ass and then think about the last guy that got in your face and whoop his ass and then go back to work

my experience is this i've always proven how hard of a worker i am and can be so when the time did come that i did have to take matters into my own hands management kind of turned a blind eye because losing the most productive person can really hurt a company

 

Do you know anyone at the chemical plant?
I bet they wouldn't be too thrilled knowing this is happening on their property.

Or call border patrol, say that there are some illegal immagrants working with and youre done. Just sit back and watch them scatter like roaches. You'll know who's illegal and who's not.

 

Remember Marine you are a Marine and the Corps will not tollerate. Don't ruine your career in the Corps. Step up and be a Marine don't lose sight,boot camp will teach you what I'm talking about be the bigger man.

No whoopass. No giving back racism for racism. You're leaving for the Corps in January. If you fuck up and decide to give one of these assholes what they so richly deserve, you will not be in the Corps, period. So don't let them bait you into anything.

Well it's a complicated issue, thank you all for the replies. The owner of the company is my "father in law" (I've been dating his daughter for 3 years now, so he gave me a good paying summer job. He won't fire any of these crew members because
1. I'm basically a part time guy
2. These are the best workers he's had ever (hard to beleive I know...)
I know I can't fight back, it will ruin my future, then I actually will be STUCK, weedeating with these assholes.
I have plenty of options I assure you I could have gone to college, I just felt a service to my country was more important.
I guess I'm pretty fucked unless I just leave, but I need another job as a follow up.

Better get used to being hazed especially if you are going into the Marines. Honestly as long as it is just verbal I'm guessing it is the same kind of crap everyone of us who has ever been the fng on a blue collar job has dealt with. I was the only white guy on an all black crew one time, and boy did they love to screw with me. First day of work I brought a sandwich on white wonder bread and I think I gave them about a week of material. In life there are situations where we have to put up with shit and prove what we can do to earn respect. Better to learn that now while you are young than spend a lifetime of pissing away opportunities because of a chip on your shoulder.
