I like that Yakima Front Loader. Our drive out to Brown County last weekend started in an Audi wagon with 4 dudes and 4 bikes on top, but we got in a wreck in Bloomington Saturday night and the Audi was disabled. We had another friend drive my Taco out that night so we could get home. The Front Loader was the only rack that fit on my OEM roof rack. So, on the way back we had one bike on the roof, 2 on my Thule hitch rack, and 2 laying on top of all our crap in the bed. It was cozy with 5 guys in the truck, a couple of them 6'4" dudes.

If I need to get my own rack for an extra bike on the roof, it will be that Yakima Front Loader.

    thanks

I researched for days before I finally settled on the front loader. My first choice would have been a hitch rack but my car doesnt have a hitch...haha

OK getting close to buying a new bike. Use would be lots of novice trails, a few technical hard pack single tracks, and just some neighborhood riding with the kids. I went to two local shops yesterday. I have narrowed down to two choices.

Rockhopper 29 ($575) on clearance, or the Cannondale SL5 29 ($650) on clearance. The shop the Cannondale is at offers lifetime adjustments and I really like the crew. The Specialized shop is OK, but seems a little big box. Price is a moot point. Which bike do you all think would be a better fit. This link is a comparison

Out of those two, assuming both are comfortable to ride for you, I would pick the Rockhopper as it has a bit better specs.

Are the specs a ton better, because actually the cannondale is more comfortable. Seems I am leaning a lot less forward. I am 6'5'' tall so the Cannondale is Jumbo and the Specialized is a 21.

Some of the drive train components are one level higher in the Shimano hierarchy on the Rockhopper, brakes are entry level hydraulics instead of cheap mechanical ones, but if the other one fits better, go with that one or look for something else if you are not in a hurry. Good fit is much more more important than minor differences in components. They will wear out eventually and can be replaced with better ones down the road.

Also, you can tweak the geometry to an extent, (leaning forward) with shorter, higher angle stem etc...

I had this problem too on specialized. Go find a dealer that sell trek and ride the wahoo and marlin 29ers.

^ What he said. Getting the right fit is better than a minor component difference.

I did notice that if I stepped up to the SL4 Cannondale I can get the hydraulic brakes

There is a dedicated Trek dealer down the road as well, I will go check them out.

Yeah at my size I am really worried about comfort, I dont want to get off of it everyday and have my back hurt.

My bike actually came from the Trek Store in Independence, it was their last '11 Fuel EX9 in my size. They have a couple of stores here in the STL area. Not sure about the guys out in KC, but the Ballwin guys are a good crew. Reps are in there all the time. I had a problem with the rear shock, and the Fox rep was at the store when I took it in. He called immediately and had them overnight a replacement.

But for hard tail 29ers, there's not a lot of difference between the brands other than the components you get for the price, the proper size to fit you, and service after the sale.

There is a trek store here in Shawnee. That service part is where I am torn, the cannondale shop is awesome, the specialized shop I have no idea, but it seems like they would pay a little less attention to a cheap MB buyer, they sell a ton of high dollar road bikes. I will get a feel fro the Trek store and go from there. Right now I am leaning towards the cannondale.

Well I went over lunch and got me a bike. I ended up with a Trek after all, but at the shop I wanted to buy from. I got a 2013 Trek Mamba. I got it on closeout for 799, for the 100 more than the Cannondale SL5, and the HardRock 29er, it was a no brainer. Hydraulic Brakes and some deore components.

Thanks, I really liked the matte black finish, and like I said the upgraded components and the rock shox sold me over the Hardrock and SL5. I am not a hardcore rider so it should work pretty good for me.

Nice, I just checked out that Landahl, looks nice. Little far east from me, but I think I could swing getting over there.

hey guys, idk much and found so much and at the same time not quite what i wanted.

ok i’m kinda looking for a nice LED bike light, not really like those cheap ass 20-$30 wal-mart ones,(they last like 2 uses with me, jumping off curbs or going down lots of stairs.) just now kinda riding easy trails. they don’t last long at all with me. I know i have seen videos of night time MTN biking so i thought i’d ask you guys.

looking to spend $50 or $60 or so,(i’ll spend a little more if it’s a good light and will last, but still want it at or under 100$) i do ride around at night some. i saw some nice ass lights for $200 but don’t ride at night enough to spend that much.
