Needle? What have I missed?

 

Anyone know how to get this broken piece of bolt out? I will reward with beer to the first person who can help remove it.

Is it seized? Can you dremel a slot in it and turn it with a flathead screwdriver?

Is enough of it sticking out to hammer a socket over it and turn it?

If not the above, then drill and easy-out

Absolute worst case... drill and tap new threads

 

Not seized, just cross threaded.
Don't think I can fit a dremmel in there. It's on the drivers side closest to the windshield, so not a lot of room to work with in there. Might could try hammer and socket approach. How much smaller of a socket do I need compared the the bolt size?

Even better would be a special bolt extractor socket.

If you had enough sticking out (don't think you do) you could put two nuts on there, jam tighten them together and remove by turning the lower one out.

Never tried this... but maybe red loctite on a nut, wait for it to set up, and turn nut out...?

 

definitely not enough for two nuts on there. Just tried the hammer and socket. didn't work. Going to see if i can somehow maneuver a dremmel in there.

May have to get the bolt extractor socket.

 

There was alot but nothing like the pic's show, I did have to pull over couldnt see with the high winds and the amount of water coming down, then the water flying up from splashing it wasnt helping either

Dremel only broke it off more, so now it's even shorter. Guess I'm off to buy some bolt extractors.

 

You were to only make a line enough to fit a flat head into.

 

Yep then the screw drive over only broke it off

 

im gonna go with the vice grip method should work, you might even want to try and wrap the screw in an old small piece of bike tube rubber as well.

 

the dremel idea made it worse as now it is basically flush with the engine. so I picked up some bolt extractor bits and hoping for the best at this point.

 

It sounds like it's crossthreaded in there pretty hard.

You're going to need to chase the threads with a tap after you get it out.

Hopefully that will be enough and you won't have to helicoil it
