    Yeah, but I found it weird that I have seen that claim by several and in various threads. It's still questionable I know, but just seems more reasonable.


    If I turn my traction control off and mash the skinny pedal while taking a corner it will light up the inside tire at least. haha


    Edit: I don't remember exactly what the numbers were that Colton came up with, but going from sea level to 5000 feet was something like a 15-20% loss in hp.

    No that was just gear for me. was solo at that point.

    Id put money on i was over 6000 with both dogs, and gear for 3 people and 2 people in the truck.

    yea what i figured too. Or just the tire is heavier even.

    Ah your an auto. i had no issue keep up speed at elevation at 12,000-13,000'. Mike said he felt it bad and cody definitely did.

    thats right! lost to the auto too! PICTARS!!

    If you weight 5840 the two dogs alone would just about push it to 6000lbs. haha

    Not sure if you can really race an auto like that (unless it has a crawlbox) the torque converter can easily just slip and allow the motor to not fully power the wheels. Maybe if you did a slightly down hill race or something.

    No, I said I can do that. One of the guys said he can be cruising along in the 30 and mash the throttle and light up the tires. I don't think the others said how, just that they could.

    Torque converters don't hook up much until you hit the stall rpm. In most vehicles it is around 1500-2000 rpm, so until you reach that rpm, the torque converter will just slip a lot allowing it to move slower than a manual that is creeping along. That slipping is what allows them to stop without disengaging the tranny. Sure they will creep along, especially in 4Lo with 4.88's but not quite like a manual does so I don't think they are very accurate in a slow race, at least not if you are trying to compare gear ratios and such.

    A good example of that is try to race them up hill. Your manual will pretty either keep going up the hill at a slow steady speed or die, while the auto might creep a little bit but will likely just start slowly losing speed until it stops.

    That is why I added that little tid bit to the end about it not being an accurate comparison of gears and such.

    If you were just trying to see who is slower then by all means go for it, but the auto will typically be slower pending the terrain because of the torque converter.

    I see. I wondered. Not really sure anymore. haha As I thought about it, Mine might actually outrun you guys with my 4.88's because it is geared just low enough to allow the torque converter to hook up better, and your 1st gear is lower than mine, but with my 3.73's it was geared too high and almost wouldn't move off the line without some throttle.

    Not true.. this can now be reflected on driver skill. with a 5 speed trans a driver can slip the clutch to obtain a slower crawl and with an auto a driver can let the torque converter slip till the truck is barely moving.
    both have the same capability but the 5 speed will eventually lose a clutch where as the auto only has to cool its fluid back down..

    Nevermind... haha Going on hour 4 of almost non-stop rain... I even got a flash flood warning on my phone. Never got a warning on my phone before and was pretty surprised when my phone started wailing and vibrating like I've never seen before. haha

    Eh, it doesn't really. It's just something that crawlers do when running dual cases and low gears. Usually you pick a really steep hill and either race up or down it and last one wins, because they are geared lowest.
