So I stopped by Tractor Supply after work tonight and picked up some clevis shackles for the new bumper, which is coming in a few weeks from now, after a really LONG day at work. I got home and saw the Demello sliders waiting for me by the garage door so as any mod addict would do, I came in, changed clothes and began the install.

There were no instructions but things seemed pretty straight forward. I must say that I am beat and barely have one side installed after about 3 hours.

I finally got the front bolt and washer installed on the drivers side (how the heck is anyone supposed to reach that?) I thought about snaking the bolt in from the inside and installing it backwards, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. After about an hour I got the front bolt, nut, washers installed. I did manage to drop a ratchet wrench into a little tiny channel inside of the frame rail, and for the life of me, I cannot get it out.

Since it was getting late I decided to attempt to drill the holes in the bottom to install the remaining bolts and finish the one side tonight... well, after about 15 minutes of drilling I made my way through the frame rail, but the hole in the back (by the gas tank) has 2 separate materials of steel and I could NOT get through the second material with my drill. What type of drill bit or end mill is everyone using to get through that steel?

I figure I'd come in, rest up and attempt the other side in the morning, but doing this solo is tough.

Cobalt bitset, some wd40 and a drill doctor to sharpen the bit as it gets dull. Makes the frame seem like butter.

Any good drill bit will be dulled by the metal and the heat. Get some cutting oil and spray it in the hole every 30sec or so.

OK, so later this morning I'll stop and get some cutting oil and a couple of 1/2" cobalt bits. My cobalt set only goes up to 3/8" so I used a black oxide steel bit (dry) and that wasn't the way to do it. I wouldn't mind welding it on, but I don't know anyone with a welder and just dropped $420 at the body shop for 'fixing' my cab mounts. I can't imagine what they'd charge to weld it up.

OK, so I blew $18 on a 1/2" carbide drill bit and completed 5 of the 6 required holes before the bit became toast. I also went through a bunch of wd-40 for coolant as the big box store didn't sell cutting fluid. It looks like I'll have to drop another $18 for the last hole.
Is everyone SURE that if I'm running 6 or 7, 1/2" bolts per side that I'll be able to safely use the sliders for a jack recovery point if needed? They sure seem stout as snot after drilling the holes and using the hardware, but welding could still be an option if someone has experience that the bolting doesn't work. Also, my 9 year old daughter was able to take her skinny hand and arm and reach up and recover my ratchet wrench! I owe her $1... should that count toward my mod total? :)

i used a "nitro bit" (not as good as Cobalt) and some cutting fluid when i installed mine. all six holes with one bit, that is still sharp. the trick is to let the bit do the work. don't push as hard as you can, and you don't need to spin the bit as fast as the drill will go. heat is what destroys the bit. the cutting edge gets hot, then loses it's temper, then becomes dull. i also used a 3/8" bit for a pilot hole, using a transfer punch to get it centered.

which sliders did you get? std. roundtube? hybrid? rock crushers?
