Saw a brand new one today. Thought to myself, "should've gotten a Taco".

One of their Sport model. Not sure what so Sporty about it.

see... I was making a joke... nevermind, I'll explain it next year when I get to come to the old folks thread (<- again... joke... nuk, nuk, nuk)

but yeah, good for him. TW is starting to become a lot like "other" forums that people always bad mouth for being dicks.

    in other news....

I test drove both the Frontier and Ridgeline, but after driving the Taco I couldn't own any other midsize.

    But does it have VTECH?!

10 second truck, judging by those fender flares.

I don't know why you would be suprised??? That doesn't excuse some of the comments made in this thread but you are on a Toyota Tacoma forum and a lot of people here are pretty passionate about their trucks. You had to expect some form of ribbing. As long as you're happy with it that's really all that matters. Myself... I would have the biggest buyers remorse I've ever had but that's just me.

*EDIT* Oh.... and this thread was called a Troll because (as you can tell) the vast majority can not believe you traded in a Tacoma on a Ridgeline. I'm still shaking my head but it's (thankfully) not my money.

Well.... at least we know you'll be back within a year.

Now I agree with you here. I for one thank you for your service. You guys never get the credit you deserve.

I was one of the many that did and obviously you do give a rats azz about it. Otherwise you wouldn't have made a long post about rationalizing your decision ;). I personally think it is the third ugliest truck (I use that lightly) that has been made recently only behind the Avalanche and the Durango. But again... If you're happy that's what matters.

    You're welcome ;)

In all seriousness. Enjoy your new ride. If it fits what you want it to do then that is what matters in the end. Obviously you won't keep it long and if you ever do decide to get another Tacoma we will always welcome you back with open arms. Until then my friend take care!

In all seriousness OP, why have you had so many vehicles? It doesn't seem very economical to me. I've had a total of 6 vehicles in my life, 3 of them being used when I was younger. I'm just curious. Why not just pick something and stick with it for a while?

I thought this as well, but not from the economics perspective. How people "waste" their disposal income is so varied, that as long as you save what you're "supposed" to based on your present and future needs, how you blow money is no one's business.

Nah, I think new cars are overrated. I'd much rather have a 5-8 year old car that I can drive in my sleep, has that familiar feel, and I know can be trusted.

Of course, all those reasons also make the Tacoma good for short term buyers. Think about a soldier leasing a Taco at 5k miles/year because he lives on a base and drives little compared to the rest of us. Having a new car every year with high residuals could be both economical and possible given the right circumstances.

Uhh, have you researched what exactly vtech is? Completely different than VVTI.

The new vtech systems employ a combination of vtech and VVTI for maximum vtech kicking in yo power! They call it i-vtech.

Sorry no excuses for misspelling VTEC, I definitely went full retard right there considering how much I harp on grammar around here.

Anyway, VTEC does not change the valve timing at all, it simply changes the lift and duration of the cam shaft based on RPM.

We all know a huge cam makes great power up high in the RPM range but is crap near idle. Vtec solves this problem by running the valve train on a small lift and duration lobe at low RPM for maximum torque, then switching over to a high lift and duration at high RPM for maximum power up top.

VVTI simply changes the valve timing at the timing chain/belt pulley on the cam shaft.

I hate ricers just as much as the next guy but vtec is pretty freakin cool.

Timing belt. Other than that the 3.5 is a very nice motor.

Yup, that is absolutely identical to honda's system.

I can't wait till we see that cam-less technology in everyday cars.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Just because something barely fits definition, does not make it right. By that definition, Rav hybrid is AWD vehicle.
I think Honda is misleading people. For somebody that is shopping for new vehicle it's very hard to figure out cons and pros of each system. So most people will simply trust company and compare AWD to AWD label only.
However, beyond the label there is big difference. Comparing Subaru AWD to Honda is like comparing Mercedes to Punto, both can be labeled as cars but they are not even close when it comes to engenering.
Here in New England people had burned Honda 4wd in snow storms. In fact I scored cheap Honda with 4wd system broken, and making sound like cement mixer filled with rocks. It's shitty system but sadly no other company makes pickup truck with AWD (even mediocre one)
I would love to see Toyota step up and made Sequoia transfer case available in Tacoma. It would make Tacoma ultimate vehicle. AWD with low for plowing, and pulling trailer out of water. AWD for driving in winter on semi plowed roads.
So I see why op would be tempted to get Ridgeline. If I did not knew how shitty system is I would think Ridgeline is awesome too. Again to me, this is manufacturer false advertisement.
I know somebody who got burned by that. Traded his Subaru for Pilot and took his brand new Pilot to OBX Carova, like he did his Subaru before. Burned 4wd system and Last time I spoke with him Honda was refusing to warranty it, citing misuse of vehicle.

I already feel that the Tacoma is one of the ultimate offroading machines out there and still stand more then pleased with my purchase of one. I beat the ever living Shit out of mine when I wheel and at the end of the day I pull out of the dirt and switch back to 2WD and without hesitation it changes over. That's ruggedness in my book. As far as vibrations are concerned, I don't know if I just got a good one or what but I have never had any issues with vibes even after the lift and all terrains. I really think a lot of the vibes issues people complain about on here are just people looking for something to bitch about but that'd just me. I am hypersensitive when it comes to vibrations, increases/decreases in power, running conditions etc. But I have never felt much of anything as far vibes go...

So I guess my point is, this truck has it's problems and pitfalls but there is a solution for everything and if someone is willing to give up a fantastic platform for something not as comparable as this, well that's their own choice but it's too bad.
