That number doesn't mean anything. It's a starting point, but I've never had a set cycle right at that exact number, and even had the number different side to side.

When I called Deaver they said they won't do just the main leaf. But that is my experience

I'm not sure what number he's talking about (52.5 " IIRC) Is this length overall ?? Seems pretty short for SUA but yea doesn't matter in this case anyway, spring length is going to flucuate on shackle end anyway (not a fixed point like the hanger end )

Deaver steel is nothing special regardless of what the shiny brochure says, they want to sell you another pack, you can use ANY main spring off ANY vehicle as long as the parameters are met

He's talking pivot to pivot. And I can't agree with MCM more, everyone claims a perfect number for a leaf setup. So not true. Every truck and every pack is different. God I hate leafs ha

No one uses special steel. Its all spring steel. But if you knew what a 62" pack looked like you would know that the military wrap is very tight. I called them about getting a new main leaf and they said they make the first 3 as a set because of this. We are not talking OEM springs here. You can not just grab a main leaf and slap it in, they are made alot different than the OEM type packs you use for the packs you put together. They have a rebound leaf as well.

Yes I'm aware of the military wrap , it aint rocket science, & your reference of it all being spring steel is correct but you failed to mention the tensile strength which has alot to do with the way energy is transferred during cycling, pretty sure the whole wrap thing is meant to buffer the impact to hanger end in stages when stressed thru compression of leafs so all that energy doesn't hit the spring end all at once bending or possibly snapping the ends off at the eyelett...If you give the front eyelett the support it needs by running the secondary spring to within 2.5"-3" of eyelett most the "military wrap" becomes a moot point (of course you'd run the next spring symetrically & so on)

Even with OEM secondary leafs with the wrapped end the first point of contact with the main is at least 7" from center of eyelett on hanger end, its pretty much defeated right from the get..

In all seriousness unfortunately leafs don't last long when you make them work hard and pull alot of travel.

Probably but ask anyone who has raced on leafs how long they last regardless of the pack.
