THIS IS NOT A POLITCAL THREAD BUT... Given the current "climate" in the U.S, I would invest in guns and ammo. (I'm a prepper just a little little) but is gold even worth buying into??

I'd rather spend my cash on something with intrinsic value. What the hell can you do with gold that will feed you, cloth you or in any way protect you in the event of a severe crisis? And no, I'm not a prepper and I don't believe in a zombie apocalypse. I just think gold is teh ghey.:crapstorm:

Assuming needing it for the same reasons as guns and ammo -- I would say no.

Porque? Because gold is heavy, and (again assuming) the collapse of an economic system, you're only going to get what you can trade it for.

If you want to buy it hedge inflation, that's probably a solid investment, but I wouldn't go putting your life savings into it.

On a side note -- I don't know what they hell people are smoking these days, but barring an asteroid strike or aliens it's not like the US is going to suddenly turn into a scene from The Postman. WAAAAY too many people from WAAAAY too many countries have WAAAY to much money tied up in our economic structure to let it go to shit. There will eventually be a "settling out" of the economic forces, similar to what China is currently experiencing, but it's not like the US is going to bottom out completely.

Hyperbole aside, realistically the worst-case scenario here is something like Greece or Spain. Hyper inflation and unemployment, but everyone is still relatively comfortable (compared to say, the Congo or Nigeria).

that's why I bought a condom mold and 2000 pounds of latex. People will pay an arm and a leg to not have a baby in the end of days. Just saying.

In all seriousness golf and silver have always continued to go up in price over the long term. I have a bit of silver and a small amount of platinum. I think its worth it.

    Hahaha!

But seriously I don't think you can ever go wrong buying precious metals. However the price of gold is through the roof, will it shoot up? will it drop significantly? Nobody really knows for sure but if you plan to hold onto it for a while I think it would be a solid investment.

    Yes, golf is expensive.

Overall, your approach makes no sense. Babies are delicious and tender. I would start a baby ranch. You'll need the food when there are no supermarkets.

Should I wear chainmail gloves? I wear a cheap white-gold ring on my left hand. Should I be worried? They chop off people's arms for diamonds in the Congo, right? You think I should be worried? Dammit, I wish I would've bought more guns. Edit: Please don't tell me this email I received from a Nigerian Princess is an attempt to steal my money. She sounds very nice and I think I can trust her.

guns and ammo is high now but it will go back down again, stock up for personal use but I wouldn't try to invest in any of it right now.

You want to know what one of the best investments you can do it?

    Buy land for sale

They chop off arms for lots of reasons in the Congo. Chainmail might be a good start, though.

Ugh, the conversion rate is going to kill me, though. Pure golf is only going for, like 5/8th football these days. I could swap it for Canadian Football -- which is much closer to golf, but then if I try and convert Canadian Football to actual football I'm gonna get laughed at.

I'm the same way. Gold just slows my ass down in a disaster scenario.
