Just got my ARE CX and couldn't be happier with it so far. Sure fits the truck well. IMO the min. (have to's ) are carpet and sliding/fold down front glass, for easy cleaning of the truck and toppers glass. Plus the ARE CX is shaped well at the rear like a SungTop, a more rounded off look. Mine was ~1400 installed, Im happy with the color match also

Paid $1,528 installed plus sales tax. Has sliding, fold down window for cleaning back of cab, sliding side windows with screens and carpet. The inside light is fused, connected to battery.

One thing I like is the handle on the rear glass goes almost flush so the less than honest people have less to grab on to, to jerk it open. Very common around here on older shells that have the handle sticking out to be damaged from being broken into.

As it stands right now, for a combination of form and function, I think I'm going to go with skidooman's Rebel with vented windoors. However, adding a reinforced roof, rails, and a rack will likely put it over what I wanted to spend by about $700.

    Thanks for all the input!

    ndub,
I ordered an XtraVision with fold down front window and pet screens from Mountaineer Campers in Tempe for $2,300 OTD. I have been waiting for it to come in, hopefully this week. Mountaineer Campers seems to be a low key mom and pop shop, I think they have been there since like 1968. I'm sure you know there is a $100 coupon on the SnugTop website too.

BTW - my Taco is a '06 Access cab 6' bed.

The snugtop is a well built shell, but the window cutouts are way to small on the sides leaving too much fiberglass. They look really weird. ARE is probably the best looking/quality combo. I had a leer on my 07 and it was perfect. Never had any issue.

Leer are so much cheaper to buy that is what I went with. I've heard horror stories about them but mine was waterproof and held up really well, even with putting 150+lbs of gear on top week after week.

I put a leer on my new truck too. Great shell. Looks great and has a great price.

Id purchase the red one as well, it really doesn't look bad the built in top rack is nice, looks like a camper shell.

Yes, that's definitely something to think about. I figured I'd get a better feel for the size and how it really looks in person (hoping they would have one to look at the local dealer). Also, the ARE is cheaper too for all the features. As someone else mentioned though, I really like the rain gutter feature of the Snugtop and I also like how it fully covers the bedrails. Although, I have a silver streak tacoma and black on silver looks good IMO, so the exposed bedrails probably wouldn't bother me as much.

Yes, but they don't have the option for windoors :(

The more I think about it, I want the windoors over sliding windows.

After months of looking, I ordered the Snugtop Xtra Vision as well. It has keyless entry linked to the keyfob, full length sliding windows, carpeted headliner, insect screens and pet screens, and the boot on the front that seals to the cab (not an additional window, which makes it tough to clean). I've slept in it with my custom sleeping platform dozens of time, several times with my GF, in total comfort. Also, it's insulated so it stays very cool in the summer with the windows open so my dog can hang out in there comfortably. $2100 OTD ordered direct from the MFG, self installed.

Good choice on the Rebel. Snugtop Rebel with Thule roof rack gear on top. I also got them to add the keyless remote entry which is handy.

Count me for another snugtop rebel owner. I have a long bed 2013, I opted not to go for the XtraVision (XV) that adds another $500 on top.

I paid $1743 out the door with install and taxes. Snugtop Rebel with pro lock, rear sliding window, rear fold down window, carpeted inside and interior light.

All Snugtops come with a paint and structure warranty. All threads i've found about Snugtops have been positive. Those who had issues were taken care of promptly. The LEERs are nice but I had a friend told me his was leaking after only a year -- small issue but drove me away. Coworker had his Snugtop for 13 years without any problems. I know the issues could be isolated but this is how I made my decision on which brand to purchase.

Out the door for $2250. They were having a sale.
    Snugtop Rebel with:
    Vented windoors
    Folding front window
    Roof rack tracks
    Carpet
    Keyless remote entry

Then i added Thule Podium roof rack with 58in bars, 2 Thule Echelon fork mount trays and a Thule Sonic XL roof box.

+2. Absolutely LOVE this look. Debadge the shell and it looks OEM, like it was made to be there. This is exactly my dilemma, have something that looks like it was made to be there but lacks the function (no opening windoors), or have something that doesn't look like it's meant to be there as much, but has more function. But damn that shell looks sexy. Especially with the matched tint, black wheels on silver. Love it
