    Hey Lauren, just curious...

Why is it OK for horse owners to leave shit on sidewalks and trails but not dog owners? I get the manure in the dirt... but they always shit on the concrete by my house and leave it.

I'm not a cowboy so I was just wonderin'

Good question. I'm not well versed in proper trail etiquette when it comes to that but my guess is it's just too much to pack out. One load would fill an entire grocery bag. Though it might be nice to just kick it to the side of the trail.

But I do know it's very rude to leave manure at a trail head or staging area. I've seen SO many people simply scoop the poop out from the trailer when they arrive and leave it for everyone to admire when they depart. Not that hard to toss it back in or to have a dedicated manure bucket in the tack room.

They do the same with hay too. Most people don't feel like packing out half used bale of hay so they'll leave it. I had a friend who would go through the parking lot at our local horse arena after shows and get enough hay for her horse for a month lol

Though in your case if they are local people I'd maybe try to ask them to stop by and pick it up occasionally.

EDIT Now you have me doing more research lol. Feces from things like dogs are much more unpleasant than horse manure and it makes a good fertilizer so it's not as harsh. And I forgot to add that laws generally state "Clean up after your pets." Technically horses are classified as livestock and not pets so don't necessarily fall under that rule. And I'm reading that it doesn't pose a health hazard like most poop does since it's mostly fiber/grass.

But just like offroad trail ride days, I wouldn't mind volunteering my time to scrape up some poop lol

lol... you can start an equine pooper scooper meet up group.

I don't generally mind dog or horse poop on trails. Only when the poop is in a bag does it bug me. BUT... I live by and ride North Table mountain trails about daily and 50% of the time there is a pile of manure blocking the trail head where you go past the gate. I would like to see a little effort like... kicking it off the sidewalk or away from the trailhead. But, I won't hold my breath.

I'll give them your contact info though and tell them about your services... :)
