First post (2nd actually, posted in introductions). I purchased a 98 3.4L V6 4x4 Tacoma this past weekend. It has 160,000 miles on it and is in need of some new tires. I knew this going in to the transaction I also knew that one of the springs was broken. You really can't tell while driving it, but it's something I want to fix as soon as possible.

This brings me to my questions. I would like to put bigger tires on my truck but will they fit without some sort of lift. Currently it's running 31x10.5R15 's. Are 33's out of the question without some sort of lift? Also since I need to purchase new springs should I purchase some sort of "higher suspension" springs? Or just stick to the OEM springs?

I know it sounds like I have no idea what I'm talking about, and that may be because I really don't. Since we started camping recently I've wanted a 4x4 truck and now that I have one I'm kind of lost in what to do to make it better.

A slightly higher stance with bigger tires are my ultimate goal. Drivability is my main concern as camping takes up about 10% of my actual driving situations. Hopefully that will change soon though. Thanks everyone for helping a noob out.

Look into the stickies at the top of the "suspension" section as well as in the "wheels n tires" section.

You can stuff 33x10.50s in there.
You may want to fix your suspension issues first.

I am on the same kind of plan, run 33x 10.5s on stockish suspension, running new springs oem 99 tall spring or Old man emu 881s on 5100s.

I'm afraid of rubbing. I don't like it when tires rub because they're too big. I would love 33's, but lately I've been thinking maybe 32's.

Can't fit 33s without some sort of hammering/trimming/lift

Thanks Blackdawg. Once you got your lift in were you able to fit the 33's with no issue or did you still have to hammer/trim?

I have 33x12.5s so i still had to trim the pinch weld and hammer the fire wall and i still rub a full stuff. Plus i have ridiculous offset(2.5'' backspacing) so i have had to trim my fenders a lot too.

a 33x10.5 won't cause as many issues. but you will still have to cut out the pinch weld and do a bit of hammering.
