What have you used your inverter for?

Its underneaty the center console. Not too much room in there though. If its not too big you could certainly retro a larger inverter in there and even make the rear outlet still functional plus add a plug inside like I did. Only thing is I don't think you can use the factory plug cuz that is all regulated through the computer. But that's easy to replace. Take the switch on the new inverter apart and extend the wires to a new switch on the dash. Only major thing that limits you is above the stock inverted is a metal cage that has to stay there because that's what the center console bolts down to.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
i was wondering why there appeared to be so much wasted space in the console of my 2012 and 2013!(the 2008 was empty under there and i kept my cash stash and some paperwork etc in the space, accessed it through the cup holders) now i know. ill have to measure and see if thats an option. if not there are plenty of other places to hide one. the

so for any of you other taco guys without the inverter theres is a little free hiding space there. i also had a flashlight and set of spare keys stuffed under the cup holders. i found it by accident after my ex spilled sticky stuff in the cup holders and i stuck them in the dishwasher, i lost mail in the newfound cubby and poof :) not quite like sailing into america but a suprise none the less

Its not up by the cupholders... it's completely back to the rear. The giant center console/armrest that opens up.... its underneath that in the center of your cab. Go back a page and look at the pics I posted of the added plugs. In the last picture that shows the wires connected to my plugs, look in between the carpet and the padded insulation. That metal vented grill is the inverter. That's why the back of your center console has vents on it near the floot so the inverter can disperse heat when the internal fan turns on

mostly just for charging phones and tablets while camping, but I used it to run my bottle warmer for my 9 month old when we went out camping. Babies hate ice cold milk :)

yes sir, i apreciate it the pic attached is the front side, your right it is farther back then i was picturing but the whole metal cage and brackets were absent in the 2008 so it may as well have been a cubby :) looking at it in person it may be a little bit narrow for the inverter i have but id have to measure to be sure. i like your plug idea, both the 12v and 110. i think i might put a 12v inside the console for my emergency "backup" phone so i can leave it plugged in.

Yep that it im your pic. Its smaller than it looks too. I'm sure the area could be easily modified as long as you leave a place to bolt the center console down. Biggest obstruction I think is the shift linkage also. It goes back a ways. But certainly anything is possible.

I power up my camper with the inverter. My brother and I just did a nine-day/nine-night road trip and stayed in roadsides and campgrounds. No matter how remote you are you have lights and power to set up by. During the day the power is used to charge the phone, spare camera batteries etc.

It didn't influence my decision to buy the truck but now I don't know how I lived without it.

Well I recently tested a mini keurig brewer and it works in the back! I wish Toyota would have put a few of them in the cab but oh well mod time! And if you really want more power put a little generator in the back

I met a guy in a parking lot during my lunch break to sell an old stereo I had listed on Craigslist.

"How do I know the thing works?" he asks.

"Well, here, lemme show ya!" I say as I plug it into the 'Yota.

    Sold.

Shouldn't your camper already have an inverter, its own batt's, and outlets?????

Seems like that would be a more efficient way to run, rather than using the truck and all the parasitic losses that come with it.

You can run the truck battery dead in a hurry by plugging a camper into it (been there, done that).

One can never have too many light bars.
For all those with the SR5 you can buy some pretty nice inverters for 100 bucks. I have a tripplite one that works great with charging powertool batteries as well as my computer. I'm not sure if it has the same amout of output as the trd one but I have never had any issues.

It has an inverter and outlets built in but didn't come with batteries. I prefer to run it off the truck vs. adding batteries since weight and space are both at a premium with this set up. The inverter connection allows me multiple outlets in the camper along with the lights. I've never had an issue running the battery dead. On a trip, I park around dark and let the truck idle for 10 minutes while I pop the top and fluff my pillow. When I turn in for the night the truck goes off along with the power.

Did the same thing with an imac in a Starbucks parking lot!

Also used it to run a small black and decker jig saw when I was too lazy to run an extension cord to where I was.
    Charge camera batteries while camping.
laptop while camping so we could watch movies in the bed.
    and of course christmas lights.

I was paranoid about running the battery down while using the inverter so I got one of those jumpstarters it fits behind the back seat. So if i ever do run the battery down, I can jump myself.

I thought the inverter was supposed to automatically shut off before the battery runs too low to start the truck?

I've heard that said before, but not sure how much faith I put in that. Someone should try it out and documentation with battery voltages over time.

I have absolutely run my battery dead by plugging the camper into it. Had to use my girlfriends Jeep to jump it.

tried to run my sump pump during the hurricane last october when my power cut out. crock was filling like crazy so it was either bale water until power restored or give it a whirl with the truck outlet. I knew it wouldn't have a chance....and it didn't. Baled for a couple hours until rain died down. I now have a 5500 generac generator.

Used it to run trickle charger on ATV while heading out for some 4 wheeling and charged phone batteries.

Love the Christmas Lights...totally doing that this winter!
