Chad is right. Go apply for unemployment asap. get your money. Your company has been making payments to gov. It's yours now go get it. no reason to wait. My wife was laid off 3 months ago. found a job right away but between interviews and all the other BS, it still took her a month to start and another 2 weeks to get her first paycheck.

Perfect time to go to work for yourself. Think of something you enjoy doing, and do well, and start the train rolling man. If I were you that would be my direction, doing something for myself, that I enjoy. Good luck buddy!

    Here's what you do.

    One thing per day..

Do one thing per day to achieve your goal, get a plan together for something you're interested in starting up, fuck, it could be a gym. Put a solid plan together, in writing, detailed, and take it to investors. Find any investors willing to listen to you. You need to be direct about everything. Keep doing this until you find a couple guys willing to finance what you need, and let it rip. there really is no better time to start something up than now, maybe get some unemployment pay to keep you going for a few months while you get straightened out...

For now though, just do one thing per day, and though you might be, don't show any sign of being desperate.

Who cares what you look like to investors dude, all they care about is what's going to raise them money, and whether or not they can trust you. So say you don't involve investors, and you get a small business loan. Take your knowledge of how ski lifts operate, and start a mobile business servicing, inspecting, and repairing lifts. You could call it "seedless lifts," and work from your truck. Offer free quotes to ski resorts, a 6 month service guarantee, plus whatever warranty comes on the parts. Require a 50% deposit to start the work after you do the estimate to purchase all the necessary parts, and don't even bother with getting a business loan. Work from your house until you grow, and here is the key... Start out with a few customers and higher prices, once you figure out what you can handle and how steady work is, take on more customers/employees and lower the prices. Partner with some ski lift parts companies so you can get your business name listed on their web sites, and also create your own company website, which is really easy. You can definitely make it happen, and also stay busy year round as you'd fix the lifts in the winter when they break, then service and inspect them all summer. Also, keep your company name and symbol really simple and memorable. Who knows, maybe you can branch out and offer other services as well...

Sorry to hear, but on the bright side everything happens for a reason, you will come out ahead!

I am in in HR and more then happy to help a fellow TW member out with editing a resume if you need it.

If I wasn't in Canada but in the States I would be hauling butt to North Dakota, the Canadian O&G Service companies can't find enough workers down there. I'm not sure on the pay but if it is anything like Fort Mac it will be ridiculous.
