Shell nitrogen enhanced fuel

What do you guys think of the new shell Nitrogen enhanced gasoline?

 

i tried it on my mom's bmw 550i and lost a few mpgs and i was driving all highway on that tank without gunning it.

As for my tacoma i didnt notice any major difference, ill stick with mobil,cheveron, and 76.

 

I have been running Shell 87 for a few months. I took a trip to NM last night, SG says my MPG was 26.4. I consider that great, consider going 75-80 MPH all around.

The reason I have been running Shell is because of the reward points I earn from that gas station.

 

what i dont understand about it, is how does 'nitrogen enriched' gas help any when our atmosphere is what, ~78-80% nitrogen as it is?? wouldn't it be more effective if it was oxygen enriched?

Wouldn't nitrogen enriched would it also mean more NOx out? Also if you have more NOx how does that affect the service life our catalytic converters? Are there any petroleum chemists out ther that can explain this? It has been perplexing me since I saw the comercials.

 

lol so i am not the only one who thinks this is a bogus scheme to charge more for gas!!!!

What I do know is that Shell was one of the first to have all their gasoline meet the Top Tier standard.

The Top Tier standard has stuff in it to clean out the fuel system and greatly reduce the amount of gunk and carbon build up in the engine. So, at that time there gas was really one of the very best you could use in your vehicle.

BMW strongly recommends using only gasoline that meets the Top Tier standard.

You can google Top Tier gasoline and see what I am talking about.

What Shell should of done is market this and educating people so they understood it. Instead they just put intake valves at the register and tell you that their gas keeps them cleaner....

well this is true. but I have found that if a person just takes care of their car I.E. change oil and add lucas oil treatment or use full synthetic oil and just do proper maintaince then their car will live alot longer. Yeah nitrogen infused gas is ok but the real problem is with emmisions that the catalytic converters dont catch. but i dont know maybe its just me. my goal is to one day win the X prize on a gasoline engine that can go 100 MPG. wouldnt that be cool?

 

ya i get gas on a reserve, but only because i know the owner and she lets me know when it is 'only' gasoline in the tanks

 

I always use Top Tier gasoline, like BP, Shell, Amaco, Exxon, and the occasional Cheveron around here.

For me, it's more like a placebo. I don't really know how much good it does, but heck, it makes me feel better.

 

My dad works for connoco phillips and he says that there is nitrogen in all the gases we put in our tacos.....just a cheap scam......

 

well I put in this stuff tonight, we'll see how it works, here in b.c canada, gas is almost always the same at every gas station. that being the case, where would you buy gas if it were all the same price? I go to chevron 90% of the time

 

I found my MPGs may have gone down a tad according to my SG2, and I noticed my truck pinging when i ran it. I switched back to chevron gas after running the shell gas for 2 tanks and now my truck is back to the way it was- running good without and pinging.
On a side note: I filled my TRX450R quad(and my dads less modified one) with shell premuim when i filled my truck and we noticed popping on deceleration that didnt occur on any other ride when we used chevron or texaco premium in them.
